TLC will premier Extreme Couponing All Stars tonight at 10/9 Central.
The first, “Extreme Couponing: All-Stars,” is a series that has its premiere tonight, about people competing to save the most money on their groceries. The second, “Extreme Cheapskates,” is a special on Wednesday, about people who barter, Dumpster-dive and forage for free goods and services. If the special receives good ratings, it too could become a series.
What are your thoughts on this new show? It’s kinda a game show for couponers!??

Ruth- I totally agree! The deals those people do are unrealistic to say the least. They can’t feed their families with paper towels and flavored water! Each episode seemed to be pretty much the same, just a new face. It got old quick. Fortunately I haven’t really encountered any negativity from cashiers, it might just be the area I live in though (not many couponers here).

I watched the show and enjoyed it tonight. It was rather exciting to watch them compete against the clock, and with so many rules. Although for pure entertainment, I do wish there was an ADDITIONAL show that showed real world couponers without all the edits and sensation.
I think the show, or the increase in couponing because of it, has made stores crack down. I don’t believe its because of the honest ones, I think there’s been a dramatic increase in the counterfeiting and coupon fraud that has stores in a tizzy. Because of this, I agree with Ruth, the stores are starting to be more restrictive. I never had a problem couponing at wal-mart, until a few weeks ago. Now every time I go there, I run into issues with the cashiers, and they never seem to honor their policy.

Extreme Couponing has made couponing a chore now. It used to be so much fun going to the store and saving money. Now, as a long time couponer, I have to deal with negative attitudes from some store personnel, rude comments and policy changes. I don’t watch the show because the couple times I watched I realized that it is a reality show not based on reality. Most of it is staged and scripted so it attracts viewers. When they show the savings, they don’t take account the cost of couponing, they just show the savings. Basically, this show makes life very hard for most seasoned couponers.

I completey agree Ruth. I think these shows are pathetic, unrealistic views of couponers. I’m completly ready for the ‘coupon craze’ to be over with so couponing can be fun again. I’m sick and tired of shelf clearers and seeing carts with binders all over the grocery stores. I’m also ready for the harsher coupon restrictions to go away and the $ amounts of coupons to go back up. Sick, sick, sick and tired of these shows and the people who want their 15 minutes of fame.

Ok, I’ll admit it. I have a secret (until now) addiction to “reality” competitions. I set the DVR as soon as you posted.
I hope it doesn’t make couponers look like crazed deal searching wackos. But then again…if it does, might turn some off from couponing…leaving more deals for the rest of us! ;)
Either way, can’t wait till ten!
