Megan Clemetson says
Ok I got a $500 am ex gift card today. Tried buying another one with it. No go. Called am ex to see whats up and they said it takes 17 minutes to activate. So waited the time tried again and bam worked like a charm ; 0) love it!
Andrea says
Awesome!
Melanie says
Called my husband from the garage & said bad news….we need $900 in repairs. Good news….they take American Express so I can get free gas!!! Always a silver lining! : )
Michele says
I bought a $500 am ex gift card today and didn’t get any points :(
Shannon says
Michele,
Did you go to customer service ??
Michele says
No, I didn’t go to customer service because in the ad it states that it does not include reloadable cards. I figured it was a gamble, but every time in the past it had stated the same thing and I always got the points. Do you think it would do any good?
Andrea says
Well you might be able to use the reloadable one to purchase one that is not reloadable. You’ll have to check with customer service, but I think it would be worth it.
Derek says
I didn’t have trouble with Mastercard last week but you have to go to another store, you can’t immediately use the MC at the store you bought it at. Same is true with Amex today. I bought Amex with MC from last week, went thru fine. Tried to use that new Amex to buy another Amex, no go, said Not Authorized. Heading to a diff Giant now to buy another Amex. You gotta find the “variable” amount ones $50 to $500. I put $500, pay $505.95, and voila, 2500pts.
Shannon says
Derek,
Yeah my Giant had a big sign up that said you may not buy gift cards with gift cards.. so I am thinking that it could also very from store to store.
nadia says
My giant only had $100 gift cards. They said they don’t carry any higher than that.
2big2failinscranton says
i havent heard about it but i wouldnt be suprised,i see people filling 5 and 10gallon water cans and all other kinds of unapproved containers, they are gonna riun it for everyone.!!!
April says
Anyone know anything of the new policy limiting us to only 20 gallons instead of 30? I haven’t been able to confirm this at the pump yet.
Shannon says
Hey April, is this Giant PA or MD you are talking about?
April says
I shop Martin’s in VA. The website says up to 20 gallons, but after scouring this week’s ad I found it says up to 30 gallons. Ruth, I felt the same way! Thanks, everyone for checking and let’s collectively keep our fingers crossed that our respective stores don’t change the policy!
Shannon says
Thanks for the update April.
Ruth Ferreira says
I think these are the locations that it applies to and it looks like it is at Martin’s in MD.

At the Giant website in PA, it still stays this:
Gas Savings
Your Gas Extra Rewards discount is good for one vehicle gasoline tank fill-up
(30 gallon maximum)*.
Points must be redeemed by June 28, 2014.
Your post scared me there for a second. I use my points to fill two cars every week and haven’t paid for gas in 2 years.
Elaine says
My Giant only does the american express gift cards in increments of 25.00 and 50.00. :(
Shannon says
Bummer..
Holly says
I would really love to do this deal because I just graduated and I always need gas but, I have never used Giant gas points before. Once you purchase the gift card and earn the points, how do you redeem them? Also, if you go all those points, could you fill up one car and then fill up another right after to use all of the points? Thank you!
mae says
you can only fill one vehicle. We have like 4 other red 5 gallon gasoline cans that we bring, you are allowed to use them to get all 30 gallons but you can’t use a second car. Wish you could!!!
Melissa says
Where did you get your gas cans?
Melissa says
I’d like to do this but I’m afraid that I’ll be stuck with it since lots of places don’t accept American Express. In the past when I bought the Master Card GC, I could pay my oil bill but the oil co. doesn’t accept AE : (
Megan Clemetson says
Question, does Giant (Martins) even accept AE? I was thinking to do the deal and use it to get my other gas point groceries but my store in Hagerstown does not accept AE
Katie says
Mine just started accepting Amex about a year ago.
Wesley Pipes says
Is this at every Giant? My circular just came in and its nowhere to be found. What page would it be on?
Wesley Pipes says
nevermind, found it.
Kristen says
Anybody know if these will ‘roll’ like the Visa or MasterCard ones? In other words, can I use a gift card to buy another gift card? Can you set a PIN?
Andrea says
Usually you can’t use a Visa or MC gift card to buy another Visa or MC. Not sure about the PIN, though.
Wesley Pipes says
Crap, I loaded up on the gift card deals from last week. Wish they wouldve waited until the next gas period. I still have like 17,000 points.
Shannon says
Wow 17,000 points is a lot.
Wesley Pipes says
yes indeed lol. According to their rules, unused points roll over an only expire once the promo period ends. bought up the gift cards right after the last promotional period ended so that it would count towards the current promo period.
Shannon says
Very nice. This is fantastic if you fill up your tank frequently! I wish more people could grasp the concept of doing this!
Megan Clemetson says
I use a ton of gas and I was reluctant to do gas points before as well. But once I realized that I’m spending the same money just getting product and gas why not. And not even the same money because of all the awesome money makers! Free Gas yes Please :o)
Shannon says
Megan, Yes I wish I could teach this to everyone but everyone kinda has to just get it for themselves! Once they do, they are like DUH!??!!
Megan Clemetson says
So true. I absolutely love gas points now! I try really hard not to give a dime to any other gas stations. I only use points. Fill up my SUV and 3 5 gallon tanks once a week
Megan Clemetson says
Love when they do the gift card deals! Did anyone else have issues last week with the Master cards? I put $500 on one and it would not work and the gift card company who issued the card said there was a 7-10 days hold on the funds. Total BS was sooo pissed!
Shannon says
That is ODD never heard of that.. did it work yet?
meg says
No, I waited 2 days. Fortunately the Giant let me return it and get my cash back!
Shannon says
Oh man! That is a ton of cash to have “in limbo”
Megan Clemetson says
Right! So happy my store stepped up and gave me my cash back!
disqus_4STv2EsR2I says
I had this happen with the MasterCard I bought on Sunday too. They have told me it was a glitch that happened to thousands cards. At first they told me 1-3 days and now it’s turned into 7-10 business days. Giant wouldn’t refund me, so I’ve now disputed the charge through Amex. I am not happy about it at all. I really need to pay my electric bill… I will never buy another U S Bank backed card again.
Megan Clemetson says
I feel your pain! It’s unfortunate that your giant would not step up and refund your money.
Holly says
Aw, man! Why did they have this again so close to the last one. Too much of a good thing.
Shannon says
:)
Sarah Beth Hoffman says
I just might have to try this one!!! Love free gas!!
Stevie says
That is awesome!!
Shannon says
Everything is AWESOME! (singing to the tune of the Lego Movie Song )
Stevie says
LOL… totally stuck in my head now. :)
Amy says
Whoooo Hoooo!!!
Shannon says
LOL yep!
