Genuardi’s Stores Closing | Some To Become Weis Markets

Not every Genuardi’s Market is becoming a Giant store.

Three locations of the long-time Philadelphia-area grocery chain will become Weis supermarkets, the Sunbury, Pa.-based Weis Markets Inc. announced Monday.  Three locations of the long-time Philadelphia-area grocery chain will become Weis supermarkets, the Sunbury, Pa.-based Weis Markets Inc. announced Monday.

These are the stores set to become Weis Markets:

  • Conshohocken (200 Ridge Pike)
  • Doylestown (13 Old Dublin Pike)
  • Norristown (25 West Germantown Pike)

    I’ve been waiting to hear what the Genuardi’s in Exton will become. I’m hoping a Shoprite since the closest one is in West Chester. My fingers are crossed!!

      Nancy, ME TOO! I was hoping for a Weis myself, but I will make do with a Shoprite! :)

        I remember a couple of years ago when Shoprite tried to get the old Acme location in Collegeville and Acme blocked it from happening by continuing to pay the lease on the empty building. Fast forward and we have two empty Acme stores. Go figure!

    That would be nice. I know ours is closing, but don’t know what will replace it.

    I really wish the now empty Genuardi’s building in Royersford would be come a Weis, Redner’s, Bottom Dollar, or something. I am a Giant fan and I would probably continue to go Giant but it would be nice to have a choice. I have 5 Giants under 10 miles from me. No more Genuardi’s, no more Acme, and no more Superfresh. Competition is a good thing. I think Giant is noticing they don’t have much competition in the 422 corridor as I cannot help buy notice their price increases throughout the store!

      I would agree with you for sure. I am hoping that Weis might see the value of that area. They are really a store that can compete with Giant – they are growing rapidly in Berks County – and IMHO their new stores are nicer layouts than Giant.

    So glad they are making the Doylestown one a Weis. I see all the good deals you post and this will be the first Weis in our area!
