and I know compared to some places this is cheap…..
I save at Rite Aid, Giant, Weis, so that filling up my gas tank doesn’t break the budget. Does anyone know where I can get some coupons for gas?

Around here we have speed way/ super america and by making purchases in the store and pumping gas we earn points. You can then cash your points in for gas cards.

it seems that when I use coupons at Stop and Shop (which I thought is related to Giant) it lessens my dollar amount toward points at the gas pump. So I try now to use Costco.

Love this psot between me and my husband jsut driving to work and small errands no where fancy we spend three times as much on gas as food. My car cost 38 and change today for 12 gallons. I get 30 mpg hubby drive a fouyr door wrangler not sure his mileage. It makes me sick that we spend so much. What can we do? I try walking to church and combining errands and walking to palydates when its not to cold.

Local grocery stores with gasoline pumps (King Soopers and Safeway) keep track of your spending and give discounts at their stores and a chain gas/convenience stores when you spend a certain amount with them. I don’t shop there enough to work the gas discounts. The best our family achieves is to check online for the local cheapest (reliable) gasoline vendors as reported by locals. Our TV station has a listing, for sure, and my husband tracks another for diesel prices.

My husband who is from the countryside of Vermont is very familiar driving a sedan with snow tires and his family up there too. I’ve never had snow tires put on my vehicle until I met him, but I’m in the urban area of southern NH. I had a minivan without snows on, and just last winter I didn’t get any snows for my little old car. Yikes if I were to have an SUV I’d have to work harder on getting coupons!

I live in NYC and I drive to NJ every so often (like when I am almost on empty) and my fiance and I enjoy the following: shopping in a mall (convenience plus better prices than here in the city), we see a movie (especially if we want to see and IMAX or 3D because it is much cheaper), stop at Target and Whole Foods….it is usally 50 cents cheaper per gallon, which makes up for the bridge toll…and if I go to Target here in the Bronx, I have to pay to park my car anyway….
That being said, i have recently cashed in my points on my Sony Playstation credit card for BP gas cards….I got $300 worth with the points I had….I only got that credit card in the first place because there was a promotion a few years ago that you could get $150 off the purchase of a PS3 with the card (Christmas present for my fiance)….and then I augment my points by participating in silly “clubs” on their website (Jeopardy Premiere Club, Wheel Watchers club)…(i don’t even really use the credit card, just earn points on their website)….honestly, with the price of gas, those gift cards are saving me right now!!!

I drive a PathFinder and it costs me about $70 to fill my tank :( – I’m in N. NJ. As someone else mentioned there are no coupons allowed for gas and for some strange reason, often gift cards (unless for a specific gas station such as Exxon) can’t be used either. I’ve also read that many have “gas deals” at their supermarkets, unfortunatly, we do not. Can you imagine what prices will be like with summer around the corner?!
Angela says
There is a small local store (michigan) that gives ‘gas cash’ when you spend a certain amount (BEFORE coupons) or buy a certain product. The last time I was able to get 57c off of 15 gallons. :)

Three things we do:
1) Our Hy-Vee has a gas station & they offer cents off w/grocery purchase some times.
2) The backs of some receipts that are filled w/advertisements have Break Time coupons for cents off each gallon.
3) After making a purchase @ JCP an offer popped up to get $10 off my purchase w/a trial membership. I’ve kept it! It’s called family fun rewards & is legit – not a scam (although I think some people sign up for it & don’t realize that it’s a paid membership @ first). It’s $10 a month, but each quarter you send in a form & get $25 back. You can also purchase discounted movie ticket,s B&N gift cards, iTunes gift cards, and gas cards. Obviously, if you don’t send in your form or purchase any extra cards it isn’t worth the $$. We have the monthly fee credited to a card where we get cash or points back.

Unfortunately in New Jersey it is illegal for gas stations to accept coupons for gas purchases!!!!

I use the gas deals at Giant and recently got 50 cents off each gallon saving me over $9 to fill my tank.
Shannon says
@Andi,
woot! that is sweet!

Ugh… I hear ya! I figured out at $3.50 a gallon costs me .31 cents to drive a mile :( Thank goodness for all of your deals!!!!! Now if we could get Rite Aid to sell gas!
Brad S says
When you spend over 50.00 at the weis here, you get .10 cents off /gallon at Sheetz.

I’m just chuckling at the 17 gallons to fill your tank…I haven’t been able to fill my 27 gallon tank in weeks, b/c so many of the pumps shut off at $75 or $100 dollars…YEAH….Reason #1 that I coupon…and combine trips when I do! LOL!
Shannon says
@D,
oh I wish I just had 17 gallons, I have a big ole SUV — I feel your pain. Its a double edged sword – if I dont have a SUV I cannot get out of my drive in the winter – if I do I get 12 miles to the gallon!
My husband drives a ford fusion atleast.
Stephan says
@Shannon,
You better invest in good winter tires and buy a normal car, no SUV. All-season tires just don’t do it. They are bad summer tires and bad winter tires. Plus cheap winter tires don’t do it either. You have to read test articles. SUV’s are so bad in the snow, too. Their center of balance is way to high and they are too heavy, thus decreasing performance a lot!
I laugh at people all the time when they say “but I have all-wheel-drive”. well, that doesn’t help anything if your tires suck, because these 20 square inches of all tires combined that touch the ground make the difference.
Shannon says
Been there tried that, a car just slides going up our hills. The backend of the car just would flail around.. I would have to walk up our very long hill – with good tires. Now, I can just plow right up it — we’ve lived here for four years and only the SUV/Truck makes it up.
Grace says
@Shannon,
I know what you mean about hills and snow. Our driveway is a slight hill, but boy does it make a difference to have a 4wheel drive vs. my minivan. My husbands truck gets 24MPG but is is diesel. Diesel is more expensive right now, but it pretty much evens out with what a regular gasoline truck would get (but it has more power-lol). I can’t wait for them to come out with an affordable diesel suv that is 4 wheel drive. I was just chatting with the guy at the post office who has a Volsvagen Passat Diesel and he gets 50PMG!!!!! He said he can get 900 miles to a tank of gas. If I didn’t need a bigger vehicle (kids/sports/friends/hauling bikes, etc.) I would be out getting me one of those ASAP!
Shannon says
@Grace,
wooooo 50 miles to the gallon?
kristi says
I know… it’s out of this world expensive again. Do you live near a Fas Mart convenience store? If so, they have a promo only good through tomorrow 3/31 where if you buy $100 worth of store gift cards, you get a $25 gift card free. These can be used on gas. That’s a lot of free gas!! My husband and I have stocked up!! HURRY since this offer expires…. this is for real!
Call 1-800-621-1013 (fas mart headquarters) and type extension 1113 (Susan) and request this promo. You can pay with your credit card over the phone. You’ll receive the cards soon after in the mail.
This is the cheapest way to buy gas that we’ve found so far.
BTW…. Love this site and check it everyday! Thank you so much for all you do!! :) Kristi

Here in WNY, Tops has a very nice gas promotion. Every manuf. coupon is worth 1 cents/gal. If you use 10 coupons, you get 10 cents/gal off the regular price, in addition to the points from the dollar amount you spend. Last time, I was able to accumulate 50 cents/gal off the gas price, which saved me almost 10 dollars!
Brittney says
Mypoints!! I have gotten well over $150 in gas gift cards just within the past 6 months. My favorite (and free) way to earn points is subscribe to magazines dot com because they periodically send out free $5 gift cards. I then use those to buy the magazines through mypoints and get 500 points per subscription. It’s a huge help!
Liz says
@Brittney,
Brittney, thanks for the tip about gas cards! I somehow never realized that they had BP and Shell giftcards!
Betsy says
Hah! I’d kill to get gas in the $3 range…it’s been about $4.10 to $4.50 here for a few weeks and of course we’ve got a road trip coming up! Our Vons offers $.10 discounts per gallon for the first $50 spent in the store. Also, if you find an error on your reciept they will give you a $5 gas card :D Right now gas is reason #3 we coupon!
Shannon says
@Betsy,
yeah ours is $3.79, I saved with gas points to make it $3.59.
Melissa B. says
Cheapest station I found this morning was 3.27, but I saw it had jumped today to 3.40 around here. I can’t believe we have “Cheap” gas in NJ. Lol!
Stephan says
@Melissa B.,
It is so funny that you are all complaining about expensive gas! Have any of you ever been in Europe?
I am from Germany and the actual gas price is about 8$ per gallon or 1.55 euro per liter.
I still laugh every time I get gas here! So cheap!
Grace says
@Melissa B.,
NJ always had cheap gas. LOL. I used to live in Bristol and would drive over the bridge to NJ just to get gas and that was when it was still in the $2 range. When I got my first car, it only cost me $10 to fill it up… oh how I wish we had those gas prices again….I would do so many more Rite Aid trips….haha
Melissa B. says
The only thing that is cheaper in NJ is gas believe you me!!!! I think they make up for the gas prices with property taxes and insurances. ;)
Daphyn says
@Melissa B., We lived in N. NJ, just outside of NYC, for 4 years. While most of our expenses were higher than they’d been in PA, our gas was always cheaper.
