Pink Together- Breast Cancer Awareness

When I received the email about writing about the Pink Together website, I had highly mixed emotions. While this initiative is really wonderful, I didn’t know if I can do it. I didn’t know if I could write about breast cancer.

You see, I got this email the day after I spent the night awake with my mother agonizing over her breast biopsy results. It was a day and night with much crying, me secretly when my mom wasn’t looking and her crying all day and night. As I sit here writing this post, I know my mother is going to be okay. There are many women who are dealing with a breast lump that don’t know that they are going to be okay. I urge everyone of you, please get your mammograms on schedule. The difference 6 months can make is incredible in a womans breast cancer battle. I urge you to make it a date with your mother, sisters and friends and get your mammogram.

As National Breast Cancer Awareness Month approaches in October, I want to introduce you to – an online community on MySpace where those touched by breast cancer can connect and provide support, comfort, and encouragement to one another.

The site is part of Pink Together®, a national campaign to support those impacted by breast cancer and to help raise awareness of the disease. To support Pink Together, General Mills is donating $2 million to Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and is turning the packaging pink on an assortment of its most beloved brands.
