Update: Like I said, this seemed almost too good to be true. Rite Aid removed this from the participating items, even though it was clearly listed!
This deal is dead.
This deal almost seems to good to be true! I told you about the $20.00 UPR from the Resolution Rewards here. Well, from the ad, it looks Vanilla Visa Gift Cards are included.
If they really are, here’s how the deal would work:
Buy (1) Vanilla Visa Gift Card $100.00
Pay $6.95 Activation Free
Pay $106.95 Out Of Pocket
Get $20.00 UPR from Resolution Rewards
$13.05 in profit
*The last time I posted a gift card like this, some of you failed to see how you made money. I want to make sure you understand, yes you are putting out $106.95, but you will have:
- $100.00 Gift Card to spend
- $20.00 in UPR
Sue F. says
:( Glad I checked this. I was going to go this morning. And the frustration with Rite Aid grows…..
Shannon says
Sue, tell me about it :(
Gini Huttenga says
okay now Ruth you just made me jealous.. How rude.. *Just kidding* It’s great when you find deals yourself.. ;)
Ruth says
RiteAid and other stores are monitoring posts on popular websites like this one. These posts help a lot but it can also kill great deals. I find the best deals on things that are not posted and that I’m able to find myself. I shop every single day since I’m a personal shopper for a number of families. I got a great deal of Walgreens this week and I haven’t seen it posted anywhere, that is a huge moneymaker but posting it would mean, that it would be changed or I wouldn’t find the items anymore.
judy says
I agree about the deals may either be not available (store gets attacked) or disappears (the store takes it back), when they are advertised.
But at the same time, sometimes it is the only way to find out what great deals are out there.
I think that if you find a great deal and you already took advantage of it you should spread the word, this way at least some of us can benefit.
Gini Huttenga says
It sounds like some are having luck and some are unfortunately not. I’m not going to go try the deal even though it was clearly in the ad.
My opinion is someone needs to do a recheck, and if there is a problem with their ad then they need to honor it. It think this is the second time that this had happened in the past few months. It is just like pricing stickers, if the stickers says something they need to honor it. or if the item is wrung up wrong then they maybe they need to honor it plus the difference.
It’s an ad they have multiple people looking at it for corrections.. It’s sad how they are starting to run the business.. Not being held accountable for their mess ups shows poor management.

I personally am in charge of proofing departmental items, but fortunately I don’t work in retail!!! :) Just a reminder that proof readers are human, and everyone makes mistakes.
But I do personally think RA should have just bit the bullet on this one. There was a limit unlike the puffs deal weis pulled a few months ago, and the language wasn’t at all gray- product was clearly listed as qualifying, and it qualified on Sunday just fine with the sale started. I missed out on this one, but you win some and lose some.
Shannon says
Yes I agree, but they had it in both the ad AND the resolution rewards book!
RuralPA says
I went into my Rite Aid and the Vanilla Visa cards were clearly marked with $20 UPR stickers. When I purchased one for $100, it had an activation fee of only $5.95, but my UPR didn’t print! I asked the cashier about it, and she told me to call the 1-800 no. I asked to see a manager, and he promptly gave me a $20 Giftcard with NO expiration-even better than UPRs! I assume this is because he realized that the item was ticketed, and the offer got pulled 1 day after my purchase.
Liza in NC says
I’m so glad I got mine before my manager knew about the pullout. Because it didn’t print out a UPR, she gave me a $20 gift card. Whew!
nicole says
I just did this deal tonight. They even had a sign right on the racks where I pulled the card from that this was part of the Resolution deal. I did not receive my UP reward. I was not happy when the assistant manager came up and told me to come back tomorrow when the manager was in. Then I just logged on and saw this. Rite Aid still owes me $21 in UPS that I have not received since September. I am really getting tired of dealing with all of the hassle, plus how can you advertise something, even in the store, then just decide you aren’t going to honor it. HOPEFULLY, I will have good luck with the manager tomorrow because I never get anywhere with corporate.
Stella says
I completelly understand.
I have been waiting for a refund SRC, you know the kind you buy something and at the end of the period they send you a check ……
I have been waiting since September 2011, this is why I don’t shop ride aid any longer. There is alwaus something.
My refund was for $100 but the check was never sent and yes everything check out before the check was requested.
jen says
do you feel that if customer service said at 2:53 pm today that they would mail me my +up that they will honor this? just to be safe, i will not use the card and then have them refund it if i do not get my $20 in 2-3 weeks like promised.
Sarah says
I’m in the same boat. I talked to Customer Service this morning and they “processed” my UP and said it would be mailed to me. Surely they would not back out if that’s what they told us on the phone. Good idea to keep the card though just in case.
Robin says
I always write the CS’s name and the time I called when I have to request Ups. I actually had a rep tell me he would send out my Ups and I had to remind him that he needed my address.
Bethanie Nice via Facebook says
Got my $20 UP reward yesterday.
Bethanie says
Did mine yesterday around 9:30a.m est and got my $20.
Kathie Tomb via Facebook says
I am so glad I got this yesterday.
TIff says
I am a manager at a rite aid and they just told us this morning that this was not supposed to be part of the deal and to take the signs down and put up disclaimers.. so all stores should have done this in the morning but some may have not seen it right away.
Katie Landry via Facebook says
I printed the skittles coupon this week from the video values and it rang up as $5.00 not $.5 :) Don’t know if anyone else has been as lucky!
Robin says
I just checked my receipt and it did take off $5 for me too. I thought my total was less than it should have been. Thanks for pointing it out!. I hope others are as lucky before they change it.
Sometimes the crappy RA system actually works in our favor. lol
Dianne Kruchensky via Facebook says
Instead of all of this crap they have going on (which doesn’t work anyways) They need to fix their damn registers, which makes mistakes on my receipt at least once a week. It takes my time and gas etc to have to run back to the store and have things corrected.
James M says
Dianne, it’s not the registers at the store that makes the mistakes on your receipts it is all downloaded from corporate office out of Harrisburg Pa. I would suggest you call them and complain because that is where it all starts.
For the Mommas via Facebook says
Amy no.
Kelly says
I purchased the $100 gift card in the ad and my rewards didn’t print. The manager gave me a $20 Rite Aid gift card in its place. I am a happy Rite Aid customer. :)
Agnes Leon via Facebook says
:-O {gasp}
AGnes says
I purchased the Vanilla gc too and didnt get the upr :( i was reimbursed $106.00.
Marina says
Looks like a nice complaint to BBB about this dead deal might be in order. I wouldn’t put the complainin if it was just a mistake in the circular but it is also printed in the resolution rewards flier.
Melissa says
True, they totally meant for this to be part of the deal and it was in all the advertising. Then they backed out when they realized what a good deal it was. So unfair, that’s false advertising. I wish I had bought it yesterday before they changed the rules. Now I don’t want to buy it because I don’t want to have to fight with the manager or CS about it.
Amy Shumoski via Facebook says
Can you use CVS rewards, ie $5 off a $25 purchase to buy gift cards? If you can, I’ve been missing out!
savfasd says
Nope, would be nice though.
Carolyn Pate via Facebook says
hmm, I think I’m losing the <3 for Rite Aid anymore!!
Bunko says
I purchased the $100 Vanilla Visa Gift Card and the $20 UPR didn’t print. And when I pointed this out, they told me it was a misprint in the ad (they had a sign by the gift cards, but I missed it), but they refunded the $105.95 I spent on the gift card.
Sarah says
I just came from Rite Aid where my UPR did not print either. I bought the Vanilla Gift Card for $100 because I wanted to get one that was EXACTLY like the picture in the ad just in case. Well it didn’t print but the manager said I had to call Customer Service. I did and they are sending the UP in the mail but I was hoping to use it this week for the Gillette promotion. I wish they would have just given me a gift card for $20. Oh well. He said the UPR in the mail would not have an expiration so that’s a plus.
Robin says
I’ve had to call CS a few times and the Ups they send always have an expiration date on them. The expiration dates are much longer than the receipt Ups, usually about 2 months. Just thought I would let you know they will most likely have a exp. date.
Dabielle says
I just came from rite aid and when I tried to do this deal my rewards didnt print out and the manager was about to give me a gift card untill she went back to her office and came out with a paper that said these where NOT suppose to be in the ad and they will not be honoring the rewards!
Sarah says
Call customer service and give them the transaction # on your receipt and they will honor it. I had to do the same thing this morning.
Dabielle says
Thank you for letting me know this Sarah!
Lori R says
My upr didn’t print so I need to make a phone call!
melissa says
Mine didn’t either this morning. I wondered if it was because I didn’t buy a preloaded one for $100. I bought one that you could load any amount up to $500. Anyway, it was the manager who checked me out and I showed her the ad and she just gave me a gift card since they can’t force UP rewards to print… which made for a better deal for me since the gift card won’t expire like the UP!
Melissa says
I’ve used UPRs in the past to purchase gift cards…is that a new thing?
Btw, it’s a limit of one UPR for this event, according to the ad.
anthonyb says
This works great.. just did it with the $100 one and no problem
Ashley says
does it print out just one $20 UPR or a couple smaller amounts??
Nikki says
I was just at the rite aid in sayre pa and it didn’t print out did you purchase the one that is a set amount or the one that you can choose your load amount. The manage did call customer service for me so hopefully i will get a answer soon because the card is clearly pictured in their ad and if they don’t honor their own ad that is crappy
Renee says
I just came from Rite aid. The Vanilla Visa Gift cards have a activation fee of 4.95 if you purchase the card that lets you load any amount from $20 – $500. vs getting a fixed amt card. so make sure you pick the right card, load it for $100.00 and only pay the $4.95 fee. The fine print on the card says, it may take up to 24 hours for the amt to be available. this would make a nice profit of $15.05. I am wondering if there is a limit on the 20. ups since I have the ad here and cannot find anywhere that states a limit for this. also does anyone know for sure if the ups from one card CANNOT be rolled over to another card. I would like to purchase one and then give the 20. ups to my daughter to help her purchase 1 on her card. With the profit from both cards, this will help her to purchase additional items needed for the new baby.
thanks!
Kim says
Unfortunately (as I’ve been told) you cannot use UPR towards the purchase of gift cards.
Would be GREAT if we could!
Carol Leisey Malek via Facebook says
Better idea! Today I scope out the rite-aids to be sure they have the vanilla gift card then tomorrow when the deal starts I will be standing at the door!
Carol Leisey Malek via Facebook says
Thanks! I will be standing at the door waiting for them to open !

Any idea if you can buy a vanilla gift card with a vanilla gift card and pay the $6 difference….why might you ask?…because my husband went in TODAY and bought a card. Our store had them marked with the 20 +UP and the clerk even helped him pick one out (he wanted her to help him because he didn’t want to get the wrong one. she told him that the cards had to have a specific sticker to work)…..then no +UP rewards printed…..after calling the manager over they all realized the promotion doesn’t start until tomorrow (fine print said 12/31). So, he said he would just wait until tomorrow, but the manager said sorry it’s been activated and we don’t do returns on gift cards. I understand, but am extremely dissappointed that they both didn’t know the promotion was set up too early and then their lack of knowledge on their own sale cost US money. To my husbands credit he asked all the right questions before his purchase…they just didn’t have the rught answers and now we are stuck:(—-anyway if I can buy another one tomorrow with the one we have, be wouldn’t be out so much:(
jESSICA g says
I have bought a gc with another gc but it depends on the store. Most of the time they don’t look at your card so I just slide it thru like its a debit.
Shannon says
I would actually call customer service today – see if you can get your UPR – explain the situation.
Sarah says
I dont know what he said but I would either go back and ask them to honor the $20 + ups that they told him was supposed to print or call the 1-800 number. When I got the Home depot gift Card deal Mine didn’t print and they gave me a $20 gift card instead. But its there mistake they should be the ones to deal with the loss.
Robin says
Call Customer Service and they can send you 20 in Ups. The dates should be honored. I shopped on 12/31 and I had some of the items count on my receipt towards the $100.
Carrie says
There is also the Coors rebate $10 wyb $50 in gift cards – if you are in a NBPR state, the deal gets even better!

My Coors rebate that I just found in Rite Aid yesterday was $5 off $25 gift card purchase. I don’t buy many gift cards but found the one for $30 in iTunes and I’ll be sending it in!
Sarah says
I would like to mention that there are a lot of good deals with the rewards and that you might regret just getting the gift card. I am thinking about not getting it. Or thinking about only getting the $50 gift card and using up the other fifty to get the $20 plus ups to get the other deals. Just have to go check if all of them have a $6.95 activation.
Shannon says
Sarah,
I would to hear some of your ideas. I think this is a great idea for people who may not shop rite aid on a regular basis — but would love to hear your other ideas.
Debbie says
I believe you should purchase the card and buy the great deals with the $20 UPR. If you just buy the great deals than you’re not making any money. Use the gift card towards groceries and/or gas (or buying more deals!)
Sarah says
Well if you use the card to by the deals that you still wont be making any money. So that would be a waste of time.
Sarah says
There are tons of them. Pro Nutrients would be free again if you didn’t get them last time. IF you get them before the 3rd. Visine is supposed to be a money maker. Pantene ends up being 2/$2 but when coupled with the resolution rewards it would be free. Bengay, Aleve, $10 wyb $25 Crest SCR is back I am sure there are going to be some deals there. There are tons of others that are cheep but would end up being free after the $20 WYB $100 rewards and I am only looking at the first 2 weeks of ad scans.
Shannon says
Sarah,
Yes I see that, but no matter how I work it, I still come up with less of a moneymaker as the gift card. Without being able to roll UPR anymore — I am just thinking of getting the giftcard and then going back and stretching the UPR to do the deals. I guess I am looking for a scenario that would be more than a $13 moneymaker.
Sarah says
Would like to add that if you have 20% off it would be even better. 20% off $100 is $20 then ad the other $20 for the rewards and you have 40% off anything not on sale, use coupons and buy things that come with + ups and there are probably alot of money makers.
Sarah says
But if you use that $13 to buy things that arnt free but cheep u are still spending the money and it will no longer be a money maker. It will be a waste of $6.95
Tiffany says
I scoped them out in my store this morning and they have a activation of 4.95 where I am at…. maybe it is different in different states?
jill says
Is there a limit to the $20 rewards that can be earned?
This should work…the Vanilla Gift cards are also on the full listing of items included in the promotion. They are in the “small appliances/electronics” section.
jESSICA g says
yep saw this in mine – is there a limit on the buy and save?
