Welcome to the Make it Quick series.
Last week, we saw how to make a QUICK, natural foaming handsoap at home.
This week we are going to stay along those same lines, making your own Laundry Detergent at home.
If you are interested in making your own laundry detergent, here is a easy recipe. No pots, no jugs.

Do you have a great idea on how to make a great product yourself {instead of buying it?} We would love for you to share them! Send your blog post/or idea to admin@forthemommas.com.

Do any of you use it in a frontload (H.E.) washer? How does it do?

I was scrubbing my bath tub this morning (with one of my free from Rite Aid spic and span scrub brushes) , and realized I didn’t mention this detergent makes a great all purpose cleaning scrub. I use it in my bathroom, in the kitchen sink and anywhere I need a little extra scrubbing power. It does wonders on soap scum! Just another way to save a little bit of money.

I used to do this and it does work just fine. I’ve been getting such cheap laundry detergent from sale+coupons lately that I haven’t needed to make it from scratch, but thanks for the reminder!

Thanks for featuring my post and this recipe, Shannon. It truly is a money saver and I hope your readers enjoy it. After switching to this detergent, I don’t think I can ever go back to store-bought!

I have been making my own laundry detergent for a few years now! So inexpensive and easy! I grate the bar of soap with a hand grater, not the greatest – but it’s my arm workout!

It also saves you on fabric softener. I use Zote in my homemade detergent and the natural fats make the clothes soft and reduce static on their own :)

@Melissa, I have noticed the same thing! Thanks for mentioning that. :)

FYI:The trick is to make the soap bar (Fels Naptha) as fine as possible. I highly recommend using a food processor; the larger the chunks the harder it is for some machines to break it down before the end of the cycle and you end up with little tiny bits of soap in your clothes. This is definitely a money-saver and the clothes smell really fresh when cleaned with this homemade detergent.
