Featured Shopper: Stormy at Safeway

March 2, 2010

Stormy is today’s featured shopper. She is showing us her great shop at Safeway! If you are a new couponer, make sure you read Stormy’s story.

From Stormy:
Hi Shannon!
I love your blog, and visit it several times a day, I’m not a “hardcore” couponer yet, I’ve been at this for about 10 months, and have a pretty nice stockpile even though I do not subscribe to more than one newspaper, and I still sneak in need-based shopping now and again.

I know that when I first started this coupon journey, I would get very discouraged thinking I had to have multiple newspaper subscriptions to get anywhere close to a *HOT* deal. While they DO help, and would’ve shaved even more off my OOP expense in this particular shopping trip, I wanted to show some of the maybe-discouraged readers out there that it is definitely possible to make a significant dent in your shopping expenses before you reach “hardcore” status, and without running all over town to different stores, since I know that seems to deter beginners who think they don’t have enough time. This took about an hour, all at one store.

This has been a long 10 months, with some frustration especially early on, but I save every time I shop now, I never pay full retail price for anything, my out of pocket expenses keep dropping, I have an outrageous stockpile, and I could NEVER have done it without the help of your blog, and all the hard work you put into helping us understand all things coupon … so a MASSIVE thank you to you!

Thanks Stormy! We’re not hardcore here at our house either. If it’s too complicated of a deal, it’s just not worth it to us. I try to save so that we can purchase convienence foods for our busy family.

Thanks for posting this! I sometimes get discouraged because I can’t quite seem to match the sales yet to the best of the best and get $80 worth of groceries for like $10! However, I have learned saving anything at all is a huge accomplishment. I have a $150 budget for 2 weeks. I say 2 weeks because it works for us- sometimes I only spend $30 one week and the rest the next and sometimes I spend all of it in one week, so it works for us but at any rate- I went to Walmart and Weis and between the two I’ve saved around $78! And I’m still under budget yet so I have roughly $20 to get me milk and such next week! Had I not saved all that money I would have been WAY over budget already and I have enough food for 2 weeks (including fresh fruits and veggies)!! Thanks for posting this!! I really appreciate it!! :-D
