Philly Inquirer – No More Red Plum?

January 11, 2010
redplum
Did anyone who gets a Philly Inquirer get a Red Plum this week?  Rumors are swirling that Philly Inquirer has been dropped from Red Plum distribution.
I am positively annoyed by this change.  Apparently there is a long list of areas that will no longer be getting the Red Plum.  They are going to be starting “home distribution” or basically for us that live in the middle of no where, no distribution.

I am trying to see the positive in this situation, but fail to see how taking coupons out of the hands of people who use them works?  Most of my friends and neighbors will just be annoyed to have another circular come in the mail anyway. It will end up in the TRASH!

What irks me the most, is that we don’t have a local newspaper distribution. They aren’t going to send us the circulars either. Doesn’t make sense to me.

Here is the deal: it apparently not cost effective for us Philadelphians to get coupons from Red Plum in the Inquirer. So, instead they tell us they are trying to help us out, so that more people get the Red Plum.  Why not just tell us its not profitable?  I would respect them more. Sigh.
If  you didn’t get a Red Plum, leave it in the comments. We can all pout together!

hello, i recently moved to PA and when doing research i saw that the Philadelphia Inquirer was the daily newspaper i could sign up to get my coupons… i did so and since i have yet to receive coupons….its been 3 weeks and i have not gotten any coupons whatsoever!!! i’m extremely disappointed!!!! any idea what i should do? i signed up for the daily distribution… without any coupons it doesn’t seem worth it!!

    • Shannon says:

Hi INgrid, I would definitely call the newspaper immediately and let them know. I get it every Sunday and always get the coupons.

      • Ingrid J. Rincon says:

Thanks, i will… i got it today and guess what? no coupons…ugh!!! so frustrating!

  2. Melinda says:

Some time ago the Seattle Times stopped having the Red Plum insert. When I called them, they told me that the insert could be found in your local city paper (For me this is the Bellevue Reporter). It is free but I had to call them and request it. I also heard you can get it at your local library but I haven’t checked it out yet. I imagine they go quickly if they actually have the coupon inserts in them!

  3. Sam says:

The Daily Local usually has similar coupons to what is in the Philadelphia Inquirer. Most often in a different order. There are times that the Inquirer had better coupons which is why I usually bought one of each. That way I wouldn’t miss out on anything. I sent an email to the Inquirer and will let you know if they respond. I also went online to Redplum and was told through their online system my address was not in an area where I would receive them in the mail. My options were the Reading Eagle or the Daily Local.

  4. Jamie says:

Bonnie, do you know which day’s paper includes the Red Plum insert? Thanks!

  5. Melissa says:

This stinks! I get a morning call and inquirer and the inquirer usually had the better coupon amounts…:(

I manage a store that carries the Inquirer and we just got notice on Fri that beginning on Mon our service was going to change. So this may only be the beginning of things going on with them.

  6. Oops, sorry it went out twice, and sorry to hear that Shannon. :(

  7. I don’t know if this might help, but I’ll just pitch in.

I live in NJ and subscribe to The Star Ledger. A few months ago (Sep.2009?) they decided to make a change (to improve their sales?) and the Redplum insert started coming with Thursday’s newspaper. The insert has Sunday’s date printed on it, but you’ll get it a couple of days in advance.

Check with your local newspaper, they might have just changed the date (hopefully!).

  8. Shannon says:

    Pilar,

No it will no longer be included. I have confirmed.

  9. I don’t know if this might help, but I thought I might pitch in.

I live in NJ, and I subscribe to The Star Ledger. A few months ago (maybe Sep.2009?) they decided to make a change (to sell more?), and the Redplum insert comes with the Thursday newspaper. The insert has Sunday’s date printed on it, but you’ll get it a couple of days in advance.

Check with your newspaper, maybe they just changed the distribution date for the insert! ;)

  10. Krissy says:

I didn’t get it either! I was mad at my boyfriend for not checking the paper before he bought it for the coupons! Oops.

  11. Shannon says:

    Sam.

The Daily Local is the paper that is at my store. Can you tell me how the coupons in there compare to my preview. I am at such a loss as to what I am going to do about papers now. I can either get Reading Eagle, Lancaster News or Daily Local.

  12. Sam says:

There was no redplum in the Philadelphia Inquirer. I even went back to the store and looked through a bunch of others thinking that maybe it had just gotten misplaced from the paper I picked up. However, The Daily Local news still had the redplum insert. I usually buy one of each.

  13. Jenni says:

no RP in my Inquirer either but, like others, I got one in with my circulars delivered to my door.

  14. Maria says:

oh we been getting them in the mail for a few months. it sucks! because its hard to get multiples!

  15. Bonnie from PA says:

We still get a Red Plum in the Allentown Morning Call. Shannon if you’ve got a Dollar Tree they may carry the Morning Call for just a buck(my Dollar Tree in the boonies does so it’s worth checking out).

Thank you Lauren for mentioning where you get the Inquirer. I’ll have to look at my Weis next time the Morning Call is missing a really good coupon.

    • Shannon says:

The only newspaper out here is the Lancaster newspaper or Chester County newspaper.

The Reading Eagle , well bites. I am just totally bummed.

The Inquirer always got the BEST coupons. Sigh.

  16. Kahra says:

I live in Utah and never get RP in the paper. I get an insert in the mail, but it never has the coupons you preview.

  17. Christina says:

BTW Shannon, I just went through the SS from the Philly Inquirer and it didn’t have any of the J&J coupons for the rebate! I didn’t realize till just now (which was the main reason I bought it!). The News Journal (DE Paper) has them though. Did anyone who got the PI get the J&J rebate coupons?

  18. meckinzie says:

RP quit running in the Commercial Appeal Newspaper about a year ago…don’t like getting it in the mail :(

  19. Kelly W says:

None for me! :( I am in DE and wont get it in the mail either. I went and signed up for home delivery but also read that if you are not in their target area they still wont send it.

There is a Red Plum in the Wilmington News Journal but it is always missing tons of the coupons that are usually in the Inquirer.

  20. Christina says:

I bought one at store and thought someone stole it! haha! Then I went two other stores and still couldn’t find one. Figured it must of had good coupons. Luckily the PI was by second source as a newspaper.

  21. Lauren says:

I buy the Inquirer at my Weis all the way out here in the Scranton/Wilkes Barre area because the coupon values are always better. But no Redplum this week:( I get my local paper delivered as a backup each week and they had Redplum…

now I don’t know what to buy as a second paper:(

  22. Lara says:

Same here – got it with my weekly circulars. There weren’t any RPs in the Inquirers that I checked. However, I did find it in the local paper – Norristown Times Herald.

  23. Sandy says:

I didn’t get one in my paper. I did get it in the mail with my weekly circulars though. I am in the Willow Grove area, if that helps.

I didn’t sign up for anything to get it, it just came. I remember thinking it was odd.

  24. Shannon says:

I didn’t get it in my paper or with my weekly ads. I just signed up to get it in the mail, we’ll see….

  25. Michelle says:

None in my delivered paper, either. But my coupon inserts have been screwy for the last couple of weeks.

I think I’m switching over to the Reporter, anyway.

  26. Kristen says:

No Red Plum in my Inquirer either :(

  27. Anonymous says:

I did not get it in the paper however it did come in a weekly circular.

  28. Michele says:

Nope not in the weekend paper. I did get it in the weekly circular.

The RP ad says “check your redplum mail. This week’s RP coupon book is here, in the mail, instead of the newspaper. Much handier for you to plan-and save”

Can’t find your book go to redplum.com/gooddeal

I did the search and it said the weekly circulars. This is the first week in YEARS that the circulars were thrown up to the front steps instead of where ever. I believe that they will no longer be in the weekend paper.

  29. Virginia says:

No Red Plum in my Philly Inquirer.

  30. Deepika says:

No Red plum in my delivered paper either.I received one insert with my grocery flyers in my mail box last Thursday.

  31. Kelly says:

WHAT? Why would they do that?

  32. Shannon,

I didn’t get one either! However, I did get one in the mail on Friday. Bummer though because I won’t be able to get more than one now!

Thanks for posting this. I’m anxious to find out the scoop!

    • Shannon says:

NOOO this can’t be happening. I will never get it in the mail because of where I live.

  33. Lori says:

no red plum in the two sunday philly inquirers i purchased. i’m really bummed, i wanted the $15 nicodem coupon that was supposed to be in there :-(
