I have had some requests to see one of my “normal” shopping trips. You know, the ones where I don’t pay $3.00 for $40.00 worth of food. This does not happen every week – I have weeks like this one where I get some good deals and the rest are all coupon matchups with sales. I am $8.03 over my $50.00 budget, with not much meat this week (outside of deli meat). We have a nice amount of meat in the freezer from my shop a few weeks back. This is a typical shop for me, saving money just with the sales and coupons. You will see there is not to much junk food and I still saved quite a bit.
My total was $58.03.
Here is what I got:
- 6 Aqua Pod Water
- 2 Lbs Turkey Burger
- 2 Grape Tomatoes
- 1 Blueberries
- 4 Avocados
- 5 Bags of Kraft cheese
- 1 Cracker Barrel Cheese
- 2 Earth Wise Drinks (these are really good!)
- 1 Smart Balance Milk
- Peaches
- Blueberries
- Coffemate Creamer
- 2 Chobani Yogurt
- Cucumbers
- Zuccini
- Lime Juice
- Popcorn
- 10 Jello
- Strawberries
- Pretzels
- 3 Hillshire Farms Deli Meat
- Pretzels
- Butter
- Cottage Cheese
- Apple Butter
- Black Olives
- 2 Stoneyfield Yogurts
Total Before Savings $122.90
Paid $58.03
Total Savings $64.87

AWESOME!
You didnt get the giant boxes of Lucky Charms for 2/6.00?? I had OLD OLD coupons with NO EXPIRATION date for .50/1 that I used for each box (they each doubled) – so the HUGE boxes were 2.00! WOO HOO! ((I just ate a HUGE bowl, YOM YOM YOM))
Shannon, your back slash and countertops are GORGEOUS! How do I get coupons for those.
I did the Giant Kraft deal today and I did not get the $5 instant savings. However, Giant’s customer service was AWESOME and immediately refunded the difference. Love them! But not as much as I love your site.
@Christina,
I had the same issue and they did it with no problem. They just handed me a five!
My backsplash was super cheap – my husband did it and we used surplus tile!
I have to say that Giant’s customer service is awesome. One of my Kellogg’s cereal $10 catalinas didn’t print and they handed me a $10 across the counter. They are so helpful in many ways. Now if only they sold diesel!
I have to ask…where did you find used surplus tiles?

I am so jealous of those of you who have great customer service at Giant. I hate my Giant. I never seem to have trouble with coupons or sale prices at other store, but quite often issues have at Giant. And the people who work there are miserable.
*quite often have those issues at Giant
I keep hearing about these cheap trips to the market but around where I live in a major capital city we have no inexpensive food stores. I would never be able to buy food like that. I for one have never seen vegetagles or fruit coupons and sales for those are very rare. I have looked over your tips and strategies over a few weeks now and even though I have a PhD in biomedical eng. I can’t make this work. I can see the drugstore deals but it stops there. I am impressed on how some of you manage the 30 bucks a week worth groceries. Keep up the good work.
@Andy,
First, sweet on the PhD. I started my PhD program and well quit. It is something I want to do eventually. After I got my MBA I was gong ho and then life got in the way. Maybe someday when my son is older.
This is alot of money for a grocery trip for some, but I think it is reasonable. I did alot of sales/couponing combining this week. There was a $5.00/5 Kraft cheese combined with a Kraft Catalina.
The Aquapods were only $.24 after coupons.
My tomatoes and blueberries were buy one, get one free.
The turkey burger was BOGO plus there was $1.00 coupon.
It isn;t easy and I dont think you should be hard on yourself you are saving where you can. Some areas are more expensive, I live in the Philadelphia area which is much more expensive than parts of the south, but is much less expensive than DC or NYC. You just do what you can do to live the best you can in your area.
I paid $8 for organic milk a few weeks ago. Some people would die ..but thats the best price I could find for a gallon of organic milk.
Thanks for reading.
when i don’t have coupons for organic milk i find that whole foods actually has the cheapest price for $5.99/gallon (19428) and Target can be $5.99/galonl. as well. For some reason my GIANT sells the same milk for $6.79!
Is there a coupon out for the Aquapod??? I remember awhile back there were $1.00 coupons & they were on sale 10/$10 making them free!
lol this is from 2010.
Is the $5/5 Kraft a store sale or coupon? If it is a coupon, where was this found? Thanks!
Hmmm.. I spent the same amount today and did not get quite that much. And I missed the blueberries. Darn it!
