Fruglista Living – Dressing Your Teen on a Budget

May 16, 2009

We all know that kids get to that age where they want to dress like all the other kids. I don’t know about you, but I am not paying $90.00 for a pair of Hollister jeans and certianly not $150 for a pair of Citizen jeans.

So where are all of us Momma’s supposed to get clothes for our diva teenagers?  Certianly the Goodwill or Yardsales don’t have what they are looking for!  How about Plato’s Closet?  Plato is about as budget friendly as you are going to get with name brand hip clothes. From Plato’s website -

Plato’s Closet® is all about being fashion savvy and shopping smart. We’re a nationwide unique recycling retail store specializing in clothes for teens and twenty somethings — we buy and sell the latest looks in gently used clothing and accessories from the hottest brand name designers for girls and guys.

Plato’s Closet has clothing for up to 70% off retail. They don’t accept worn out clothes, so no worries, no one will know you bought it second hand. I am also a big proponent of if you get something new, something else has to go! We all know how quickly kids become bored with their clothes.

Plato’s is not just for teens, it can be for Mom too!  They take up to size 15/16 in juniors, so Mom can take advantage of some hip clothes too!

So why not bring those jeans to Platos, get cash and buy a new pair!  Here is Plato’s policy on selling clothes to them – from Plato’s website.

Selling your used clothes is easy at Plato’s Closet! Here’s how:

1 Clean out your crowded closet!
2 Bring in your gently used brand name clothing and accessories to Plato’s Closet®. Most desired are items purchased within the past year.
3 Sign in with a team buyer and review the steps and time frame needed to complete your buy.
4 While you check out the latest arrivals at the store, a buyer will review your items based on a variety of criteria including: style, condition, brand and store’s current stock levels.
5 The buyer will enter the buying criteria details into our computer system to create an offer for those items we would like to purchase.
6 An offer to purchase your items will be extended to you.
7 Once you accept the offer, the buyer will complete your transaction and you’ll be on your way with some extra cash or a hot new outfit (or two or three).

Yes, Mussers and John Herr’s have the same specials!! I too went to MU. I grew up near there and shopped at John Herr’s most of my life. I went to Mussers today and ended up very frustrated. I found out they do not take coupons printed off the Internet. I like shopping there but wonder what to do. I don’t really want to run to another store (such as Weis) each week! Thanks for any advice!!
