What store did she get this at?
SCR… must be Rite Aid! My favorite place!
What’s the $10 J&J rebate?
I am curious, I just went to target and purchased things and gave my coupons and one rang up at 1.70 when it should have been for $3 and then another one wouldn’t take, so I paid .65 oop, which was fine, but I was looking at my receipt and my tax was .65, it would let me get money back or use coupons to take out the tax… is this normal?
Katie,
Tax depends on your state. Some states have different tax rules and also depends on the type of coupon you are using.
A store coupon essentially reduces the price you are paying to the store, so if you pay $0.00 you owe no tax, if you are using manufacturer coupons its a form of tender and the store is still charging you $2.00 for the item and thus must collect tax.
Does that make sense?
gotcha – thanks. I am beating myself up about the overage that I lost. Oh well, live and learn – and this is a learning process!
The J&J rebate is over. I hate to inform her I don’t believe she`ll be getting $10.00 she was expecting. I was under the impression all purchased needed to be made from 1/10/10 – 2/5/-2010 in $30 qualifying J&J products, unless this is a different rebate I have no idea about? The one I`m referring to is the one back from http://www.coupons.com….
“Receive a $10.00 rebate when you purchase $30.00 worth of products from 2 or more qualifying brands between January 10, 2010 and February 5, 2010……Rebate form submissions must be postmarked by February 5, 2010 to qualify. Please make a photocopy of all your documentation before you send it in, just in case you need to make a follow-up phone call.”
Bonita,
Yes she did it in January. I am just have had a huge response to featured shoppers and she was next in the que.
Shannon
According to the coupon policy, coupon values could not exceed mathandise value. The cashier should adjust her oop to 0 not do a refund. Shannon, I like your your blog, and it helps mums with budget, but I think you should ask your readers not to abuse coupon policy. More and more rite aid stores are closed or not accept coupons any more.
Julia,
You will see that she used a $20.00 Gift Certificate from Rite Aid in the mix.
She did nothing wrong, they can give her back the money from the gift certificate that she earned from prior Rite Aid Transactions?
Maybe you missed that.
It seems she did this transaction a few weeks ago when it was valid. I did a very similar transaction that week when there were the same in-ad coupons going on that week @ Rite Aid.
I did a simliar thing with my Rebate Check in VA and they did make me add more so that I could be over the tax. I added two more cleaner products (and another coupon) and there still wasn’t enough. I swear that I added it up twice but all I paid was tax on mine too. I copied mine to turn in for Flexible Spending and then forgot to turn in the rebate so it didn’t turn out as great as I thought it was suposed to be! Opps but stuff happens! Congrats on the great bargin.
