Great deal, but honestly, there is no way any of the RA’s in my area would have anywhere near 12 of these in stock at once.
Shannon says
you dont need to buy them all at the same rite aid,, the scr will track.

I attempted to do this deal as Stephan did, but when I got to my Rite Aid (Shermans Dale, PA) they only had 4 boxes of Zip Loc Bags. So I came up with this deal:
4 Lucky Charms $4.79 each BOGO FREE = $9.58
USED $1 off 3 coupon (recent Sunday paper)
2 Ziploc Freezer Gal bags $3.99 each BOGO FREE = $3.99
USED $1 off 2 coupon (recent Sunday paper)
2 Ziploc Sandwich Bags 50 ct $3.79 each BOGO FREE = $3.79
USED $1 off 2 coupon (recent Sunday paper)
4 Kleenex Anti-Viral Tissue boxes $2.49 each BOGO FREE = $4.98
USED $1 off 3 VIDEO VALUES coupon (from Rite Aid Video Values)
2 Chex Mix $3.19 each BOGO FREE = $3.19
USED $1 off 2 (recent Sunday paper)
Also used $1 off total Rite Aid purchase from Rite Aid Video Values
Also used $2 +UPReward from last week’s Dove deal.
Total OOP (Out of Pocket) after coupons = $17.68
NOW SUBMIT for $5 SCR (Single Check Rebate) AND SAVE THOSE BOX TOPS FOR YOUR SHOOL!!!
I compared these prices to what I would have paid if I would have bought the same items in Store Brand at Wegman’s or Giant and definitely saved money with Brand Names at Rite Aid:
4 boxes of Tissues for .79 each = $3.16
4 boxes of Cereal for 1.99 each = $7.96
2 bags Snack Mix for $1.99 each = $3.98
4 boxes storage/sandwich bags $1each = $4.00 (on sale at Giant this week)
Total = $19.10
Rite Aid total for Brand names is $17.68 (after coupons) PLUS get $5 Back!!!! (and the box tops for your school!!!)
Andrea Holuczak says
I bought 12 Ziplocs and used 6 $1.00 off 2 coupons with no problem yesterday.
Shannon says
yeah , its really against the policy — so I wont post it that way :)
Mel says
Could I use two $1/2 and two buy 2 get 1 free?
Shannon says
Mel, that wouldnt make it better? you’d want to get your two free when you buy 2.
Stephan says
Hm tricky!
You would have to buy 6 bags in order to be able to use a b2g1 coupon, since you only pay for three out of the 6 items.
So lets do the math:
6*3.49= 20.94
with BOGO 10.47
with b2g1 mfc 6.98
But you wouldn’t be able to use another coupon then!
if you would use the 1/2 you would only be allowed to use 1 coupon since you only “bought” 3 items. So you would be better off with the b2g1 coupon if you buy 6.
Mel says
How about this?
Buy (12) Ziploc bag items at 3.49 BOGO = $20.94
Use 2 $1/2 = $18.94
Use 2 B2G1 which would subtract $6.98 (this should cover the other two boxes I’m actually paying for right?) = $11.96
Get $5 SCR
=$6.96 for 12 boxes
Did I do the math right??? The B2G1 is throwing me off!!
Shannon says
he he ok
so your buying 12.. but paying for 6.
So according to rite aid, you cannot use bogo on bogo..
so you can b2 , get 1 free == that means you would be buying 5.
repeat, you are buying 4.
use the (2) $1.00/2
yep that should work.
phew.
Mel says
Thanks Shannon! I forgot about the new rule about no B1G1 on a BOGO sale. I knew there was something. I was missing!
Liesa says
Will Rite Aid match prices with another competitor? Target has them on sale for $2.39, this week.
Shannon says
Liesa,
No but BOGO sale would be better than $2.39 anyway – $1.75 each.
Stephan says
Target has a target IP coupon out that I printed a while ago. It is 1/2. I was about to use it this week but then I decided to do the RA deal instead.
ashley says
We wouldn’t be able to use 6 $1/2 coupons? Rite Aid’s forever changing coupon policy is confusing.
Shannon says
well technically no, you are not allowed to use them on the free ones per the policy.
Stephan says
Well, I better don’t say what I did ;)
Just see it this way ashley: Not everybody prints and reads the coupon policy before he/she goes shopping. Certain rules I think are ok, but it is the stores’ and the cashiers’ responsibility to check this! It can not be the shoppers responsibility to know every single rule. Of course easy rules like buying the right item and the right quantity have to be followed.
But if I buy 2 items and I have a $/2 coupon I don’t see why I can’t use it. You might try using 6 coupons, and if the cashier says “no, you can use only 3” then so be it! The store will get reimbursed for them anyway, if you use 3 or 6.
To be honest, NONE of the cashiers at my RAs know the policy better than I do! THIS is ridiculous!
Bad training on the stores side does not mean that I have to compensate this as a shopper…. IMHO
Shannon says
or you mean like when they show breaking their own policy in the ad :)
Stephan says
Hahaha yeah that is the best anyway! Veet is another good example of that! The left hand does not know what the right hand does in this company…
It is so funny, too, that they did not come up with a statement yet or another way to fix it. It has been posted on soooo many blogs and boards by now…
I feel bad for them, because if they have no clue of what they are doing with the coupons they open the door for fraud. And this of course means they are losing money, and this means that they will cut the whole coupon thing eventually (or make it even stricter).
Dave says
As a retail manager, I want to tell you the store will NOT get reimbursed for a coupon that does not apply. When the coupons & transactions are verified by CMS (retail coupon wholesaler company), they will not redeem $ for coupons that do not match up with products actually sold. Every time you use a coupon that is not legally acceptable in a transaction, the amount of the coupon becomes a monetary shortage for that store. A shortage is a loss, no different than when a product is shoplifted. Shortages generate higher prices and fewer deals, so all of us as consumers pay for the loss.
Your rationale that it’s the fault of the store or its employees’ “bad training” when customers purposely break the law with coupon fraud is unfortunate. That’s like saying you should take cash out of someone’s purse just because you can while they aren’t looking.
Customers who repeatedly attempt to defraud a store are flagged. Keep in mind the technology that allows companies to monitor transactions, from computerized registers, membership cards, reward cards, all the way to surveillance systems.
You’re right, as long as stores continue to lose money through shortages and coupon abuse, policies will become more strict and may eventually become obsolete. We can all lead by example and shop honestly.
mary says
But with billions of coupons redeemed each year please explain to me how a coupon wholesaler company matches the item to the coupon? How is the wholesaler able to do this and not the store? Answer: it’s not as cut and dry as you think it is. I understand you are a retail manager but coupon redemption by stores is an antiquated process. Unless these “not applicable to the item coupons” come into the wholesaler in extremely large lots, they are not detectable.
It’s a process that actually needs to be upgraded. Eventually, there will not be paper coupons. All coupons will be loaded on to your particular store card and it will be one card per person and many of them will be attached to your ID. Example: your picture posted on your store card along with maybe an address. It’s almost like having a second license.
