Checkout 51 FAQ

Yesterday, I posted the newest savings tool Checkout 51. I was asked a few questions and wanted to share those answers with you the answers. You can leave any additional questions in the comments!

What is Checkout 51?

1. Browse your offers, buy at any store! 
2. Upload your receipt
3. Get cash back!

How do I cash out?

You can cash out once your account balance reaches $20. If you prefer to let your balance build up before cashing out, you can do that too! We’ll only send you a check once you hit the cash out button.

You can cash out in two ways:

  • On the Account page.
  •  In any of the emails they send you once your receipt has been approved. The link to cash out  will appear in these emails when your balance is $20 or more.

I didn’t enter my address when I created my account. How will you know where to send the check?

  • When you cash out, you will be prompted to fill out a form with your mailing address (if you haven’t before).  They will then send your cheque to that address.

How will you give me my cash back?

  • Once you have cashed out they will send you a check by regular mail. On average, it takes 2-3 weeks for a member to receive a check once they have cashed out.

How long does it take a receipt to be approved?

In order to have a speedy approval process, please make sure you include the following items on the receipt photo you upload:

  • Date
  • Store name or logo
  • Total
  • All items you are claiming

We need the entire receipt from top to bottom. If your receipt is long, please take multiple photos.

Around 80% of all receipts are approved within an hour of being submitted. Some receipts take longer, and others will get flagged for one of our staff to review the receipt. Receipts that require manual review can take from 24-48 hours to get reviewed.

What are some of the reasons my receipt would be denied?

There are multiple reasons why a claim might not get approved. The most common causes of a claim being denied are:

  • The date is not visible in the uploaded images
  • The items you claimed cannot be read as the photo is from too far back, or too blurry
  • The store name or logo is not clearly visible on the receipt image uploaded
  • The receipt total cannot be read from the receipt
  • The receipt has been uploaded already by another user

    Sorry I’m late to this discussion … I do like the blog here :)
    As to Checkout51, I don’t know about the rest of you, but I really don’t want to go shopping, and then have to spend an hour to upload my receipt to get the rebates. That’s what’s been happening to me. I use multiple rebate systems (ibotta, shopmium and (trying to use) Checkout51). With ibotta, I quickly and easily scanned my items and uploaded my receipt. Took less than 5 minutes. Within 10 minutes of uploading the receipt, I had confirmation that my rebates were approved, and I had funds in my account. With Checkout51, the app failed miserably to scan the receipt (same receipt, same phone/camera, same background, same lighting). It would NOT focus and take a clear shot. I tried uploading via their website, and the pictures I’ve taken have been declined for being too large. Their message is that they don’t accept pictures over 5Mb … the problem is that the pics I’m uploading are less than 2Mb.
    As I said, it’s been an hour and my time is worth SO much more than what I might get from this site. I’ll stick with ibotta (which I LOVE) and shopmium. So much better.

    If I buy something today and an offer goes live for it tomorrow, can I still submit my receipt and get credit for it?

      unfortunately you cannot submit it unless the receipt is dated during the timeframe of the offer being valid.

      Hi Mary, If you go to your Ap store on your phone and search checkout51 it will come up . you just select it the same way you would any other ap.

      Hi Mary! Do you have a digital camera or smart phone?

      Also when you open your ap it will have a button on the bottom that says upload receipt. If you click on that a camera will open up so you can take a photo of your receipt.once you take it click button again on bottom of screen and it will upload.

    I haven’t joined yet, but I have a question… I was looking at a receipt from my grocery store (Giant Eagle) and it just says things like “Fiber One” or “Special K” and then the price – Like it doesn’t specify whether I bought bars or cereal or whatever. How will they be able to tell what items I bought? I would just hate to buy the right things and then have them not be able to tell…

      Hmm that is a good question – is there some sort of code? I would just try and upload a receipt if you buy something this week to see if you make out ok?

        Nope, no code or anything. Are most receipts way more specific, like even down to sizes? I haven’t paid attention in the past, but I might now…

      I bought blueberries and it came up produce. So I took a pix of the box of blueberries along with the receipt and they credited me for the purchase.

      Sorry didn’t finish….I have submitted my receipt 4 times and they reply back in 2 days saying it is blurry. Now the offers are expired. Not loving it so far :(

        Did you try customer service ? My bank does the same thing when pictures aren’t clear , what are you using to take the photo?

        Mary, I had the same issue to resolve this try putting coupon on fridge with magnet then take pick to line up better with phone

    Oh, and I have the app on my phone, but I also read that you can take pictures and upload them from a regular computer. So for the non-smart phone people, that’s a major plus!

    Loaded this app last week and I love it! Already have $3.50 in my account. I love that you can get rebates from here AND Ibotta if they happen to cross over (like the milk offer did last week) and I love that you can use this at ANY store–not just ones with a loyalty card. It’s also nice that they update their offers once a week, so you don’t have to keep checking back all the time, wondering if there are new ones. Now I just wish they had a referral incentive. :)

      I brought a gallon of milk on wed and the milk offer came on the recipt thursday. Can I still send it?
