2/23/2012, I went to the store to buy my monthly groceries, and to my surprise the cashier said they no longer honored computer printed coupons. Half of my coupons were computer generated. What a shock, I yelled at the cashier telling her I would not be shopping at walmart any longer. Then I apologized telling her it is not her fault. Nowhere in the walmart coupon policy does it say they will not honor computer generated coupons. I see no place it says it’s up to the individual stores to make their own policies either. Whats a person to do. I would go som place else to shop but walmarts prices are the sale prices every place else. I am on a fixed income and need to get as much as I can for the buck. Thanks for the sounding board. It just ticks me off.

They accept printable coupons but they have to scan.. If they dont they will not accept them..

Would u get in trouble if u buy 5 items with a coupon and then return it with the receipt and get the money for those items?
Anonymous says
No you wont get in trouble but they will deny your return.. seen it happen before
Anonymous says
Yes you would, This is considered Obtaining Property by False Pretense. A felony if you are in North Carolina. I recommend not doing this unless you want to be a convicted felon. You are obtaining money more than what you received it for. You can argue all day long you paid for the items but the law states this being illegal by cheat and defraud. Walmart especially if you go to a seperate store than you purchased the items. The new store for the returns never makes it money back off your return.
Many other states have this same statute or similar.
14‑100. Obtaining property by false pretenses.
(a) If any person shall knowingly and designedly by means of any kind of false pretense whatsoever, whether the false pretense is of a past or subsisting fact or of a future fulfillment or event, obtain or attempt to obtain from any person within this State any money, goods, property, services, chose in action, or other thing of value with intent to cheat or defraud any person of such money, goods, property, services, chose in action or other thing of value, such person shall be guilty of a felony.
Couponing may give a prison sentence.

I have never run into such an unorganized organization as Wal-Mart! In spite of an online, clear, concise, printable, ALL STORES WIDE (at least that’s they way it is interpreted since NO WHERE does is state, “policies may vary by store”) coupon policy, you CANNOT get the same answer twice from any employee in that store!!! It’s ridiculous! You can actually go in there, go through one line, get one answer to what the coupon/price match policy is, then ten minutes later, you can go through another line, ask the same exact question, and get a completely different answer!!! And worse, even if you have the policy printed out and show it to them, they will argue with you, as if the policy was changed five minutes before you got there!! What the h#ll!! Why can’t it be as simple as, “here’s the policy, and this is EXACTLY how we do things!” period!! What’s the point of a policy if none of the associates (to include “blue vests”, CSM’s, store managers, customer service reps, and anyone else employed by the multi-billion dollar conglomerate!) know it or follow it!! This is why so many Wal-Mart customers are disgruntled!! And don’t even get me started on the unnecessary movement of products EVERY OTHER DAY!! What is with that?? Is it fun for them to watch us like mice in a maze looking for the cheese?? Here we are, wandering the store, saying, “I know it was right here yesterday!!” I hate Wal-Mart!!
carmen says
I went to walmart to get a copy of the coupon policy today. they would not give me one, said I had to get it off the web. would it hurt them to have printed copies for their customers. and Kmart customer service said she didnt know what I was talking about. I am on SS and just starting to do couponing and can use all the help I can get.

My sister has been couponing for about 2 months now, and I started yesterday, she told me that she had to print all the policies out herself. It’s more of a single person hobby than a group thing though. But I’m sure you’ll be just fine. :)

Same here…Even with the match price advertisement it’s a waste of time. Yesterday Randall’s had a sale for Coke-Cola buy (2) 12 packs and get (3) FREE less or equivalent to the value. After standing in line for nearly an hour because they have so many lines but only a few open. When it was my time to check out the cashier price my items then when I had a ad for (8) pears for 1 dollar she sold me Walmart don’t honor that ad because they weight their fruit by the pound. So I didn’t argue I just said okay. Then when I gave her the ad for Randall’s Coke-Cola sell she said OH no they will NOT do this because other customer tried and the manager said NO. So I ask to speak to a manager they brought a CSM and she said NO her manager said they can’t do it. Then I asked the CSM can I please speak to her and the Assistant Manager came over saying they can’t HONOR it and that the policy doesn’t cover that. Then she go on to say that a lot of other customer was mad that we couldn’t do this price match and that she could do it for me because it was not fair. I looked at her and was like WOW a manager so UNPROFESSIONAL. I thought manager’s was hired in a place to RESOLVE issues and STAND by the RIGHT policy what’s advertised, NOT come to a customer that’s been in line for over an hour now and apologize and tell me that you was trying to find the printed out policy WOW. That I’m wrong and that I can feel FREE to call 1800-WALMART. I was so discussed and PISSED. It’s a shamed that walmart will go to anything just to try to get more money and customer and don’t CARE about the people who are keeping the OPEN and paying their SALARIES. If customer don’t spend there then the STORE wouldn’t be open. WHAT happen to VALUING A CUSTOMER & RESPECT, NOT at walmart they are ok that customers leave out mad the don’t give a care. Because they feel that other people/customers would just come in. This is sad and we Customer needs to speak up and do something because it WRONG. People are really trying to make it because everything is going up in prices so HIGH. Just like the man that SUED SUBWAY because his sandwich was 1 inch off from what they advertise. It WRONG TO LIE just to get customers in the store wasting their TIME, GAS, and ENERGY especially when you’ll just getting off work like I was. I could have just went to the other store DIRECTLY to purchase the SALE with no problem and waste of time about their DANG policies. It was late and raining last night and I had to go to Randall’s just to get the SALE.
Kimberleigh says
Walmart does not honor BOGO unless the price is stated specifically in the AD.

I have a question when price matching at walmart with walgreens ad Ive heard that they have to give it to you minus the register rewards so if its on sale for $2.99 minus $2.00 in RR’s final price 99cents then walmart gives it to you for 99 cents then thats when I use my coupons but I used to be able to cut it out each week on a board and price match like that but now they tell me I have to bring in the whole ad so does that mean they wont do it minus the RR price or should they have to give me a gift card with that on there bc if I go to walgreens I can walk right back in and use the Register Rewards!
victoria h says
Iv’e been couponing at walmart and doing really well until the other day I was in the line of this really nice guy who always seems to know the policies but this old hag switched with him when it was my turn and the coupons def matched the product I was getting but she wasnt gonna take them because I was saving 75% on each one but then she wouldnt take competetors coupons with the price match uuuggghhh. My question is the walgreens register rewards does walmart take those?
Dayana says
I remember reading somewhere that they take them, so i went one time and they did take them because they say manufacturer’s coupon, but when I tried a second time, the cashiers told me no she wouldn’t be able to take them. I guess it depend on the cashier.
Becca says
No Walmart does not accept Walgreen’s register rewards.
Dayana says
so publix have the right guard deodorants BOGO, I went to walmart to do a match, at first the cashier did not know what to do so she a supervisor who told her to ring one at $2.96 and one at $0.01 making it equivalent to walmart’s $2.97/1, in doing the transaction the cashier’s charged me for 7 at regular price and not BOGO so I had to go to customer service to get it fixed, that’s when on of the managers were called and he told the cashier’s that in doing BOGO they have to ring the first one at the regular walmart price and for the one that is suppose to be free they have to compare the competitor’s price with theirs and only if the competitor’s price is lower than theirs, then they should give it at $0.01 and if not the have to give the 2nd one at half their price…we were all so confused by what he said, the cashiers, the supervisors and I….I think these people are now making up their own rules in the stores, it is so frustrating going to walmart with my coupons…does anyone know how their BOGO match work? I would love to have it in black and white.
bobbie says
i agree . they change the rules on me all the .. the people that r mangers r very crooked and lie.. the manger tried to lie and say publisher clearing house will only permit u to use 4 like coupons.. i said wow realy. thats realy funny you look real stupid. so are you done telling lies.. and she said why real surprised.. i said cause publishers clearing house does magizines and not coupons.
Kimberleigh says
If it says Buy one a 2.99 get one free in the competitors as we will match it for the exact same size/brand/color/. If it doesn’t state the price in the ad we will not match it.
Vanessa says
I was recently told by a cashier that Walmart’s policy has changed and that I could no longer use a coupon with a priced matched item. I could not find this in black and white anywhere–has their coupon/price matching policy changed?

Does anyone know what the policy is for B1G1 free coupons is. My walmart used to give max price listed now they will not. When I asked: the supervisor agrued with me that that was never done. I used the pepsi next B1G1 coupon said coupon says max value off 1.79 actual price was $1.00 per bottle. They gave me the $1.00.

Today I was informed at our local Walmart that there is a 6 coupon limit for the same item (these were manufacturer coupons not internet printed coupons). The cashier did allow me 2 separate transactions as I had 12 coupons for cat food, she had to ring up 6 coupons and 6 cans per transaction. Not sure when this policy became effective because it is not on their website that I could find. Anyone else have this experience?
liv says
What walmart was this at?
Kimberleigh says
It was probably stated on the coupon itself that you can’t use more than 6 per transaaction. It would be the manufacturers rule not Walmart
Sherry says
What about the P&G coupons that state limit of 4 like coupons in same shopping trip? I bought about 7 Febreeze products and then tried to use the $5 off 5 febreeze products and then tried to use 3 more coupons for my items, the cashier refused so she got her manager, the manager said no then I asked about what the coupon says about using 4 she said ok, then they had to rering my entire order, which by the way was over $180, then she changed her mind and said no I could only use 1 coupon, so I said I didn’t want anything and walked out.
Tinamarie says
I had the same issue tonight. They wouldn’t accept my P&G coupons for Febreeze products along with the $5 off. I’m pretty irritated that just 15 minutes before they were accepted and went through the line without a problem but then decided to go back and use my other set of coupons to buy the same exact items. Oh, the night manager and assistant manager told me they do not accept a manufacturer coupon along with a printed Walmart store coupon. Go figure! Someone needs to train their personnel because they are clueless. Here’s another one, when I asked for the their last names they wouldn’t give them to me yet another store manager’s name is listed on my receipt. Another go figure!
Ginger says
Had the same problem here ..Target does the in house coupon along with the manufacturer coupon. So I will be doing alot of my shopping with Target. Wal-mart sucks and they are just getting worse.
bobbie says
i agree … they are out to take every penny away from all the other stores.. but they are very sneaky… they dont go by the coupon policy and lie soooo much…
Memi says
I agree with you. That how I feel they are trying to take every penny from other stores and then try the same people who are keeping them in business to pay their salaries they treat like crap. I have never seen a RETAIL STORE that don’t care about customer service of how to TREAT a customer. And the Store Manager, Supervisor’s, assistant manager’s, CSM, are WORST then the CASHIER’S. just sad ..SO UNPROFESSIONAL!!!
Kimberleigh says
Policy states specifically only one coupon per item it’s not the associates that are clueless

you can only use 40 coupons at Walmart. I am not sure about line limit.

I want to start couponing! I bought a paper this past Sunday. Cut out coupons from the paper & went to wal-mart. Ended up buying 5 items for $2.12 saving $3.00 (original price for all $5.12). I am a beginner & just looking for any help with this thanks!! :)
EL says
Good job! I’m new at this, too. Have had some decent purchases, but frequently, generic beats the brand-name discount. We’ve used generic for so long now my family doesn’t notice.
mariah says
Trust me generic does not beat the name brands, i recommend visiting, if you havent already get a binder and start stocking up on super low prices, at first you get the smaller discounts then when you can get something for free or super low price get as much as you can and stock up. I just got over $500 worth of pads making 3cents on each package. If you have questions i can most certainly try tohelp :)

In regards to coupon policies…I have made a habit of printing out the policy, dating it by hand and then each month or so go back to the website and see if there has been a change. If there has been a change, I print a new one. If not, I just keep carrying to orginal printed one with me.
BESIDES, you should be able to ask to see a printed copy of the store’s CURRENT coupon policy IN THE STORE. Of course, I would not do this with people behind me in line. I would politely check out, go to customer service, ask for the CURRENT coupon policy. If need be, return all your merchandise, get a refund and start over….this time making sure the coupon policy is abided by. I guarantee you might only have to do this once and they will remember you.

One day I had a coupons for .75 off any colgate toothpaste 4oz or larger and it said limit 4 like coupons and that was all I was getting with coupons and walmart price for the 4oz was .94 so it made each one .19 and I had 4 of them and the freaking cashier tried to tell me they could only take 1 coupon total and I said no it says one coupon per item purchased and she argued with me for 10 minutes and I said thats funny they took them yesterday so she finally siad fine i’ll do it this time! After checking out I went to the customer service desk and asked for a copy of the coupon policy and they looked clueless and siad they didnt have one and another lady argued with me when i told her what happend bc she said alot of coupons state only one coupon in a transaction and I had to inform her thats not true alot of them say one coupon per item purchased! Walmart is so screwed up!
Emily says
I 100% agree walmart does not listen to their own coupon policy! Next time I go their I will bring a printed out copy of the policy because of cource I will be using coupons in case their are any issues at the register. P.S. When checking out get a younger cashier they are way more flexable with the coupons and go so much faster because once I had a cashier and b4 she scanned each coupon she read each one word by word out loud!!!!!!
Tina says
One day (a long while ago), I had a $4.00 internet coupon for 10 Smart Ones, I was expecting it not to be accepted, but this very nice checkout lady tried to scan it for me and, while it took a few minutes to do so, the scanner accepted it. I think it was 1 or 2 years ago when this particular transaction took place. Now I did read the coupon policy and it would sound like this dollar amount might possibly be accepted, I’m wondering if $4 or $5 internet coupons would be accepted in 2012 or beyond since I know that $3.00 ones are.
Thank you for your time!

wow…well i read it all and NO where on here does it say i have to have the paper ads to price match anything but the people at walmart told me and my room mate the other day that for now on we cant bring the computer with us with the ads we have to bring them all in paper ad forms…NEW FLASH….IT’S NOT ON HERE THAT WE HAVE TO DO THAT SOOOO UMMM IT’S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN…but i guess everyone wish me luck cause im cutting printing and getting all my coupons ready for my next trip to walmart…
debbie says
Sassierae, In our town in upper east tennessee, each cash register has a copy of each local store’s ad. Some cashiers look each price match up and some will look up 2 or 3 to see if you are an honest person and then will take your word for it. In my esteem it is the store’s responsibility to have the information handy for their employees.
Nat says
You can pull the ad up on your phone and they accept that. Most wal-marts will have the sales ad at customer service.
Anonymous says
no they do not do online comps… has to be paper only with non food items…
Jennifer says
I work in a WalMart and I know FOR A FACT that you DO NOT need to bring in the ad, the customer service desk is responsible for any and all competitor ads to be kept in store and they can check it at any time…the cashier just has to call them and ask. We have some cashiers at our store that tell people you have to have them also, but you do not…it is in our store policy that we sa cashiers have, they need to read their policies again.
Also it depends on what store manager says what in our store, they all have different answers to questions…I just go by what makes the customer happy.
Lisa says
since u work at walmart can u anwser this, i have a problem every time i go to walmart. they tell me i cant use more then one printable at a time because they say the bar codes are the same number but i tell them it dosent go by that, they all have different numbers on them, do u know what i mean. can any one help me with his?

Help! Please tell me what the “no limit on the number of coupons” means…. I just tried to use the Bic Pens $1/1 coupon to buy 10 packets…. I had 10 coupons, but the cashier said i could only use 4 per transaction as stated on coupon. Asked about the “no limit” policy and she said that is only for coupons that have no limit “stated” on them…IS THIS TRUE. And she wouldn’t let me do another transaction. UGH!!
BB says
I called Corperate and apparently there is no new coupon policy. Appartenly the “store manager” (corperate said it wasn’t the actual store manager that I talked to) completely made up a lie and told it to me. I am not very happy with Walmart right now.
Memi says
I just talked to the CORPERATE office and they now say its up to the Supervisors discretion and different stores. I then ask her so you telling me the AD policy your company have on the website is FALSE advertising. She said that the corporate office have given the supervisors the authority to make decision. I was like WOW then she said they will have a manager call me to explain the price match ad at that store. It so sad that businesses not HONOR CUSTOMER’S no more. And when they are hiring they want to hirer people that all about making the customer happy, but I think not. SAD
Kimberleigh says
Simple anwser then is to go to the store that has the items on sale….
BB says
I took the coupon policy with me and they would not let me use a coupn that ws over the amount of the item. I even showed them THEIR policy and the man told me he had never seen that before. I reported them and they said they would have a talk with that manager, but im sure nothing will actually get done about it. Then they said their policy had changed when I called the store and they said they can no longer give cash back, but it can roll over in that basket order.
EL says
BB – and any others having these issues –
Next time bring your cell phone and the store’s customer service number. Have the corporate number with you, too, just in case the store mgr isn’t willing to work with you. If the store won’t honor WMs policy, stop everything right there and CALL. Let them see you call and talk to their boss! I didn’t intend to, but I got at least one person fired for not honoring the store’s policy and making me feel like they thought I was a con artist. I shop there WAAAAAAY too much to be treated like that and I told the mgr so. He agreed. Haven’t seen that clerk since.
Dawn says
The very short time I worked for WM I was instructed to know the policies and enforce them. Since I am not working there anymore, I don’t know what the current policies are, but have not seen any new policies since January. I have had to do the same as EL and call customer service to the register and point out the policy…Needless to say I have a couple special cashiers that I go to regularly. I find that has been the easiest way for me. As for those that I have had to call c/s, they have been retrained and I’ve had no problems since.
God Bless and Happy Couponing!!
Memi says
I agree…I shop there to much I know I at the least spend over 1,000 a month at WALMART not including holiday’s. It just so sad that even manager’s can not help you any more. Everyday you see commercials that walmart is the cheapest and they price match and you waste your time, energy, gas, etc going there because they tell you lies plus they only price match what they want to. I so SHAMEFUL that they don’t even HONOR their own written policy on their WEBSITE. then try to embarrass you in front of other customer like you doing something WRONG!!!!!
Kimberleigh says
Most customers read what they want to into the ad match and coupon policy for walmart. If nectarines are .25 at Aldi’s Walmart sells by the pound. We can’t match that. Walmarts meat (hamburger mainly) is sold by unit price all family packs weigh the same therefore each one scanned is one price. If hamburger is 1.79 a lb. elsewhere sorry we can’t match it as theirs is sold by the pound not per package. It is matched to the EXACT item stated in the ad within the time frame. If it’s a two day sale for Thursday and Friday at that store and it is now Saturday WE CAN’T match it BECAUSE the ad is over with. If it says limit 4 well, then you only get four. If it says excludes “beef” hotdogs then it excludes that at Walmart too. If the ad states BOGO for 2.99 we honor that if it just says BOGO with no price we don’t. If they refuse your internet printed coupons it is because they have been duplicated. Most coupon websites allow a certain number per day and unfortunately many people make copies which ruins it for the ones that are honest. If an internet coupon will not scan into our system or even a manufacturers coupon we cannot take it. Corporate office set up Walmart coupon scanning system if it rejects it there is a reason and it’s not on Walmart it in on the manufacturer that put the coupon out. To be quite honest and blunt we lose more cashiers due to rude customers yelling at them about wanting money off and the system not taking the coupon. Do you all realize they are at minimum wage, not hired on full time at all anymore, not eligible for benefits and they have to stand there and listen to you scream at them for following what the register is telling them they CANNOT do….the cashiers get written up or the CSM if we override what the system cannot do. I don’t think any of us want to lose our job to save you a 1.00. I coupon and ad match also and have NEVER had a problem. I don’t have to have the ads but I do just in case they want to check. I conveniently write on my list what store, what size and the price and limit for easy reference if need be. Make it easy for the cashier as it makes the line go smoother and a better experience for everyone. If there is a discrepency have the cashier put the item to the side and take it to customer service afterwords TO NOT HOLD UP THE LINE! Not everyone price matches and coupons and get rather pissed if they are behind you while you argue about it. Sigh I have worked their from the ground up and maybe by venting about it will help you all figure it out
Crystal says
So am I reading this correctly? Will Wal-Mart take coupons from Target.com?
Nat says
YES!!! They take them and they scan all the time. I use them all the time. They even take the catolinas that you get from albertsons and winn dixie if you have them where you are. =)
Stacy Newcombe says
Well, this past Sunday I did my weekly shopping at our local Walmart store. I was price matching from the Walgreens ad, it was the pepsi 12 pack soda, buy 3 get one free- it stated the price. If it states the price on a buy one get one free, you can price match. Well, the checker said no and so did two shift managers. I think all the checkers and shift managers at our local store needs more training, lots of it. They also stated they would not take competitor coupons. Yes, they do, they have no idea what they are doing…
Paula Diviney says
Print out the WALMART Coupon Policy and take it with you – I agree with you – my local Walmart did the same thing until I took the policy in and showed it to them in black and white. I told them I was not going to fight with them any more – and if they did not do what they promise to do then I would report it to headquarters. In the end I won! The big question was – did I win? I don’t think so because it took almost one hour of waiting for them to get their act together to get my answer. LOL.
Cathy Stanley says
The same situation just happened with me! I was buying some groceries and had brought the other grocery store ad/flyer with me. I had circled the item I was buying and the price was listed. Actually it was buy one-get one free, but it said “you save $3.30. Which means the item cost $3.30, since the second one is free. The cashier argued with me. She said the price had to be CLEARLY listed, this one just told me how much I would save on two. Well-DUHHH! I asked her to please check with the manager. She returned after a few minutes and said the price had to be clearly listed. My mother is employed as a cashier at a different local Wal-Mart, and she said they’re supposed to accept them. I’m sorry to say it but I just didn’t feel like arguing (by now there was a line behind me). I didn’t have their policy with me but I’m not sure it would have changed the outcome. I mean- the price WAS there, but not written as “the price of one is…”
