2011

Evan and I went to the Apple Orchard this weekend. We ended up with wayyy more apples than we needed. I suppose we got caught up in the moment.  I have been looking around for some apple recipes. I posted over on the International Delight Blog Frog Community – a request for some apple recipes.

I figured I couldn’t be the only person looking for recipes,so I thought I would share some of the recommendations.

Beautiful pictures- beituaful spot. I’ve never actually been ‘apple picking’ other than picking one or two from my Grammie’s tree each year. What do you end up doing with all your apples?

  2. Danae says:

Made the oatmeal in my 6-quart slow cooker last night. I cooked it for 6 hours, and it was still overdone :( Don’t make my mistake! Double it or use a smaller crockpot if you can.

It’s not really a “recipe” but this is our family’s current favorite way to eat apples: http://teachinggoodeaters.blogspot.com/2011/10/apple-donuts-or-how-shape-and.html

I’m making the Slow-cooker Vanilla applesauce right now… can’t wait!!

I think I might hit the orchards tomorrow! That applesauce looks great! Does anyone know if it’s freezable after its made?

I made these apple fritters just last week, and my family loved them! (I did too, of course!) They were very easy to make!! I altered the recipe a tad here and there, and will probably triple the batch and freeze some next time! Super yummy!

This is the best apple pie I have ever tried. Instead of putting walnuts in the topping, we use pecans. Enjoy!!!

Thought I’d give the apple pie bread a try. It’s in the oven now and won’t be done for an hour. With that said, I won’t be able to tell you how it is/turns out until breakfast.

Shannon, let me know when you start making all of these yummy receipes. I will come over and be your taste tester! It’ll be a rough job, but I can do it! hehe

Thank you for the recipes! I also returned from an orchard with 40lbs of apples and I am the only apple eater in the family

http://allrecipes.com/recipe/jewish-apple-cake-i/detail.aspx is one of the few things my cooking-challenged self can do well. I always get compliments on this one and it’s super easy.

I like using golden delicious apples (doubling what this recipe uses) and you can easily make lower fat/cal substitutions. (IE., applesauce for the oil and half splenda, half sugar.) I’ve also made it in a square pan instead of a bunt pan without problem. Yum.
