Featured Shopper: Kim Rocking Harris Teeter Doubles!

February 23, 2010

Update: I am closing comments on this post. I really want this blog to be an encouraging environment and I feel as though the comments on this thread may not be conducive to that. Everyone is entitled to opinions and I want everyone to feel welcome, so to avoid feelings being hurt, I am going to close the comments here.

Today’s featured shopper is Kim. Kim awed me – really she just blew me away with her shop. I want a Harris Teeter too!

$.97 for all of this .. Yes, you read that right NINETY SEVEN CENTS!!

From Kim:

I did the following in 4 trips.  Harris Teeter will only let you double 20 coupons per day

My OOP was .97!!!!

I DID, however, use up a $3 RR – HT accepts competitor Qs as long as they aren’t for a specific product.  AND I used a $4/20 CVS Q from Recyclebank.

Total Retail Value (Before VIC card and coupons): $242.82

Also missing from the pic are 3 more jars of Prego, a box of crackers, another tub of butter, and some soft scrub.

Also not pictured (I made some for breakfast this morning) are 4 packages of full sized Pillsbury sweet rolls. hehe!  (They cost $1 of my $3 RR and gave back a $2 cat)

Ok admit it, you are just as impressed! Way to go Kim.

New Credit Card Laws: What You Should Know

February 23, 2010

If you have any credit cards… you definitely should read this…

As you may already know, the new credit card laws went into affect yesterday. I know that our ultimate goal is to NOT carry debt on credit cards.  However, my background is in finance and accounting  - I know the reality is that most people do. So if you are carrying a credit card debt, there are some very important things you need to know about the new laws.

I highly advocate being credit card debt free – however, I do use credit cards on a monthly basis.  Credit cards are not inherently bad, however, they can lead to bad situations. I use my American Express for just about every major purchase – the reason – they double my manufacturers warranty on every purchase. So yes, I pay $50.00 per year membership charge – however, American Express replaced my  laptop when it died at 14 months old – with the extended warranty. American Express also has provided me with emergency hotel accommodations when my flight got cancelled, for free.

So my point is this: Use credit cards judiciously. Pay them off at the end of the month. Don’t have 50 of them. Choose one solid card with great benefits such as cash back, rewards and use it wisely. If you cannot afford to pay it off at the end of the month, don’t use it. Don’t carry a balance longterm.

I know that some of you would love to be debt free today, but can’t. I know many of you are working on it slowly, but surely. If you have no other option than to have a credit card balance, shop you rates. Keep them as low as possible, pay as much as you can each month on the highest interest rate cards… and know these laws.
