Ask FTM: Are These Coupons Good?

January 5, 2012

Reader V writes:

Help!! I printed some coupons last night. Some of them are missing the smaller scan code that begins with a 5. Are these good?

Dear V:

These coupons are valid! In fact, the old barcodes are being phased out!  For a long time, we saw the new Data Bar Code along with thestandard UPC codes. You can read up on the Data Bar Codes here.

Many stores have implemented the computer systems to handle the new barcodes.   Are there any stores that have not updated their computers to accept coupons with Data Bars only.

Two Broke Girls: You Use Coupons!??!!!

January 4, 2012

I went to bed a little early last and was catching up on my DVR. I was laughing so hard when I saw this, I had to share. Now, this show is a little bit goofy, and sometimes even crude – but this segment is funny. Two Broke Girls – the magic of coupons!  The segment is 3+ minutes, you have to watch the entire thing to appreciate it!

My favorite line: The exact same foods went from $70 to $12. Coupons are GENIUS!

Couponless Shopping Trip $52.80

January 3, 2012

As many of you know, I live pretty much in the middle of no where. The closest proper grocery store is just about 18 miles – unless you include Walmart – which I don’t! (I do have a Rite Aid about 2 miles from me – you can check out my Rite Aid trip from this week) We needed a few items, so I went to my favorite scratch & dent grocery outlet. I paid $52.80 and some of my deals included:

  • Organic Pasta Sauce for $1.00 (bought 6 bottles to stock up)
  • Starbucks 12oz coffee for $2.99 (bought 3)
  • Buitoni Fresh Pasta 2lbs $2.99 (bought 3 to freeze)
  • Bacon $2.99 for a lb.
  • Pizza Sauce $.50
  • Tortillas $.50
  • Veggies for $.30 a can

I  love shopping at this store because there are no coupons to cut, it is just over a mile (saves me gas and time) and the prices are reasonable.  I use this as an option when I don’t have a coupon or the sales aren’t so great (like the last couple weeks). You do have to be very selective and check dates – but it is well worth it. I paid $5.00 after coupon & sale for Buitoni a few weeks back, so the $2.99 price is great!

How did you do shopping this week so far?

Happy New Year 2012

January 1, 2012

At the end of each year, I think how did it go by so fast!

2011 was a year of  ups and down for me. I am thankful for all of the Ups and what I have learned through the downs. I feel incredibly blessed – I have an amazing group of family and friends – and readers here on FTM.

I am thankful for all the opportunities that 2011 brought my way.  It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know many of you in 2011.

I am not a fan of resolutions, but in 2012, I do have some big plans.   With these plans, mean some changes around FTM. Most of the changes will go unnoticed by many, but will make a big difference. The one big plan for 2012 is to no longer run FTM solo. It is a big job keeping on top of every deal, giveaways and literally thousands of emails.   I am thrilled to announce that my sister Natalie will be playing a  larger role in FTM in 2012.   She is still learning to coupon, but she is ready to jump in.   My other big plan for 2012 is to start races again. Many, many moons ago, I ran competitive races. My goal in 2012 is to run atleast two races – but hopefully many more. I can say that training at 36 is wayyy different than training at 21. My ultimate goal is a Spartan Race!

So I wish all of you the best in 2012. I hope you will hang around for the new year!
