Valentine’s Day Candy on a Budget
Let’s face it. There are times when spending a lot of money on Valentine’s Day is just undoable. That doesn’t mean you have to skip the holiday all together though. For example, a box of candy is a simple gesture that let’s your partner know you’re thinking of them. Still, if you’re on a budget a local chocolate shop may be out the question. Don’t worry though. With a few simple tips, you can get a great box of candy, even on a budget.
Tip #1: Go with Discount Department Stores
Places like Walmart and Kmart will be the best place to find a box of Valentine’s Day candy on a budget. Discount department stores have a wide variety of brands to choose from and they also have much better prices than drugstores and supermarkets. In fact, it’s not unusual to see the same box of candy at a supermarket for almost double the price you would pay at Walmart.
Tip #2: Bigger Isn’t Always Better
As you shop the aisles of your local department store, you may see that some brands cost a lot less than others. You may see boxes that contain more than two pounds of candy for the same price that another brand is for less than one pound. In these cases, it’s best to stick with the smaller box. There’s a reason the prices are so different and it basically boils down to the quality of the ingredients used. You may be a budget, but that doesn’t mean you should settle for subpar candy.
Tip #3: Go with Brands You Trust
There’s a reason brands like Whitman’s Sampler and Russell Stover has been on the market for so long. These brands are consistent and are known for their quality. For less than $20, you can purchase one of these brands in a nice box. If you want to save even more money and get a bit more candy, forgo the fancy box for a plainer box of candy.
Tip #4: Think Outside the Box
Valentine’s Day candy doesn’t have to come in a fancy box. It doesn’t even have to be traditional candy. You can find other treats throughout the store that can easily be made into a nice gift. For example, you can purchase your partner’s favorite candy from the regular candy aisle and then dress it up in a fancy box from the craft department.
Tip #5: Make It Yourself
If you want the most bang for your buck, make homemade candy. There are several easy recipes available online. Not only is homemade candy budget friendly, but your partner will be more impressed that you took the time to make the candy yourself.
