Tips for Celebrating Valentine’s Day on a Budget
Who knows where people got the impression that they had to spend hundreds of dollars on Valentine’s Day. While it is nice to get gifts on Valentine’s Day, those gifts do not have to cost a lot of money. In fact, it’s quite easy to celebrate Valentine’s Day while being on a budget. Now, there are a couple things you should take into account when it comes to celebrating Valentine’s Day on a budget. First of all, a meal at home can be much more romantic than a night spent at a crowded restaurant. Also homemade candy will mean a lot more than a box picked up at the drug store. With that being said, why not enjoy Valentine’s Day rather than stressing over how you’ll ever be able to afford it?
Valentine’s Day Candy on a Budget
Making homemade Valentine’s Day candy can be really easy. Even if you aren’t good at making candy or you’ve never made candy before, there are some recipes that are so easy to make. First, let’s talk about the box. Expensive boxes of Valentine’s Day candy are always beautiful and you can make beautiful boxes even while being on a budget. You will need a white box that you would normally place shirts in at Christmas time. You will also need access to a word processing program and some red and white tissue paper. Open the word processing program and choose a clipart image. You could either choose hearts or candy or even both. Along the top type out the name of your chocolates, for example you could name the chocolates after your sweetie, like Tony’s Chocolates. I suggest using a nice font or even choosing to type it up using WordArt. Then print out the page and glue it onto the top of the box. Inside place the tissue paper. Now, let’s move onto the candy. I suggest making more than one kind and keeping the recipes simple. You could fill the box with chocolate dipped strawberries, chocolate covered Oreos, and maybe another easy to prepare candy like Buckeyes. You can find several easy candy recipes that are very easy on the budget at the Kraft Foods website.
Valentine’s Day Dinner on a Budget
The thoughts of the cost of going out to eat on Valentine’s Day are enough to send some people into a budget panic. You may think that you’ll just have to skip Valentine’s Day dinner because of your budget, but that just isn’t so. In fact, being on a budget can be used to your advantage on this romantic holiday. First let’s talk about setting up a romantic atmosphere. Find a large comfy comforter and place it in the living room floor. You may need to move your coffee table. Next place candles around the room. Find all the pillows in your home and place them in the floor around the comforter. After the room has been prepared, start on the wonderful, budget friendly meal. I suggest buying a couple nice steaks, like New York Strip steaks. Now those may sound expensive and not in your budget, but when compared to the costs of going out to eat, these are really great on your budget, plus most stores have some sort of steaks on sale for Valentine’s Day. For the sides, choose something simple like broccoli and baked potatoes. For dessert, consider preparing a chocolate fondue with strawberries, pieces of pound cake, and cookies for dipping. This is a dessert that is very friendly on the budget and is very sexy because you can feed each other. Enjoy the meal in the living room, while listening to your favorite love songs.
See I told you that you could have a wonderful Valentine’s Day on a budget. This is sure to be a Valentine’s Day that you’ll remember for a very long time and not because you’re still paying the credit card bill for that one night.
