Learn to Coupon

How to Coupon at Rite Aid. Part I  You can see all the prior Learn to Coupon series here.

Today we will be discussing using Coupons at Rite Aid. We will break down the Rite Aid Coupon policy and matchups.  Rite Aid’s Coupon Policy can be found here.

Rite Aid offers several ways to save in addition to coupons.  They include:

  • Single Check Rebates
  • Wellness Program
  • +Up Rewards
  • Video Values Coupons
  • In ad Coupons
The best way to save at Rite Aid is to combine the different offers  First, let’s take a look at Rite Aid’s Coupon Policy.
Key Points
  • Rite Aid will accept internet / print at home coupons up to the equivalent value of $5.00 off.
  • Rite Aid will accept up to 3 coupons on one item – one Manufacturer Coupon, a Rite Aid coupon coded RC49 and Rite Aid coupon coded RC48.
  • Rite Aid may accept up to 4 identical coupons for the same number of qualifying items as long as there is sufficient stock to satisfy other customers within the store manager’s sole discretion.
  • Rite Aid does not offer overage. In the event that any item’s selling price is less than the value of the coupon, Rite Aid will accept the coupon in exchange  for the selling price of the item. Coupon redemption can never exceed the selling price of an item and no cash back is allowed.
  • Buy One Get One Free coupons cannot be used in conjunction with a Buy One Get One Free promotion.
We will break down the individual ways to save at Rite Aid:
wellness card
Wellness+ Program

The Wellness Card at Rite Aid is the key to getting the sale prices at the store.  You must sign up for and use your Wellness card at each visit.  The Benefits of the Wellness Program are:

  • Members-only sale pricing throughout the store
  • 10% off Rite Aid Brand products every day
  • 24/7 exclusive access to a pharmacist when you call 1-800-RITEAID
  • +UP Register Rewards on qualifying purchases (cash back to be used in-store)
  • Upromise participation
In addition, you can earn a discount  for meeting spending threshholds.
  • Earn 125 points – Get  A one-time, 10% off shopping pass
  • Earn 500 points – Get  10% off all non-prescription purchases every day
  • Earn 1,000 points – Get 20% off all non-prescription purchases every day

Discount will remain active through the end of the calendar year. Members will be informed of discount eligibility via email (or cash register receipt if no email address is provided). Members must present their wellness+ Rewards Card at checkout to receive discount. When used with a sale priced item the customer will receive the lower of the discount price or sale price. Please take note of this, as this can affect your deal scenario.

For example:

If Huggies are on sale for $11.99 and the regular shelf price is $12.99, your price will be $10.39 with a 20% discount or $11.69 with a 10% discount.

If Huggies are on sale for $9.99 and the regular shelf price is $12.99, your price will be $9.99

Single Check Rebates

Single Check Rebates, commonly referred to as SCR. A Single Check Rebate is Rite Aid’s version of a mail in rebate – without the need to mail them in. Each month, Rite Aid releases a book of the month’s SCR.

Some of these SCR are featured in ad, but many can only be found in the monthly book or online here.

To get started, you will need to register for the website.  Once you are registered, you will be able to enter in your information.

The ad will show a free item after Single Check Rebate.  Here is how it will work:

  • Purchase 1 Zarbees Children’s Cough Syrup for $5.99
  • Pay $5.99 in store
  • Come home and enter your receipt into the Single Check Rebate System.
  • At the end of the period, you will request your check for the money back.
  • Each month, you will receive one check for all the Single Check Rebates you completed that month.
Once you have signed up for the SCR program,  you will be able to enter your receipts into the SCR system.
Click enter receipt.
Enter the information from your receipt.
Confirm that your information is correct and click ok.
Once you enter, click on the month that your receipt is in to confirm that your rebates went thru.
After the rebate period has ended, click request check now. NOTE: YOU MAY ONLY REQUEST ONE REBATE A PERIOD – so BE SURE TO WAIT UNTIL THAT MONTH IS OVER BEFORE YOU REQUEST YOUR CHECK.
Common questions about SCR:
Can I use a coupon and still get the full Single Check Rebate back?
Yes, the coupon will not be deducted from your SCR amount.

Can I still get a SCR if I got a rain check?

Rainchecks will be honored for all rebate offers during any promotional rebate period. Rainchecks must be used within 30 days of issuance to purchase the product on rebate and qualify for the rebate. Your receipt must state “Raincheck” under the participating rebate product item to qualify for rebate.   If you purchased the item on raincheck outside the valid rebate dates then you will need to resubmit your receipt information to Special Services for manual processing. To resubmit your raincheck receipt information to Special Services you can submit either by fax or mail. For information to fax click here or mail click here.
How often can I get a check?
Once per period. If you request a check for one rebate offer, you will not  be able to request another check for another month.
To be continued…
I will be hosting a chat later this month on the Blog Frog, on learning to coupon, make sure you head over here to sign up for the Coffeetalk Community for the chat.

Is adjusting down an UPs not allowed? Every store I have been to in the past four months I’ve been couponing will (i.e. adjust a $10 to $9.95, the total before tax).

Last night I was told I could not use a 1.50 up on a 1.49 purchase (before tax). The same clerk also insisted you could not adjust down a mfc q to the value of the item (i.e. $1/1 to .99), which I understand is against RA policy. I don’t ever argue (SO trying to avoid being “that crazy couponer” lol!) retail is a hard enough job, so I said thank you, please void that sale. I am REALLY confused because I had been at another RA that same day, and they did adjust down the up! (I never do more then two transactions at one store)

I am so confused. I want to keep it legit, and hope that I haven’t been breaking the rules all this time! I’m kinda embarrassed to call corporate in case I’ve been accidentally breaking the rules.
    Please advise.

RA coupon policy reads: in the event of any selling item price is less than the value of the coupon, RA will except the coupon for the selling price of the item. Meaning they adjust down.
I personally don’t shop RA but I’ve found most cashiers at most stores don’t know their store’s policy. Best to carry the policy with you and when in doubt, ask a manager.
      Hope this helps.

  6. Thanks so much for the info. I just set up my account! Fingers crossed. :D

i have 20% discount and i’m trying to figure out the covergirl deal. there is a bronzer that is 5.69 and they are b1g1 50%. does the discount apply to this? already bought some covergirl, just want to know exactly what i need to get the upr. thanks for everything you do!!

    • Shannon

Sharon, the 20% discount is negated by the 50% off because its a greater discount.

      • Sharon M

thanks Shannon, I don’t know how you do this all the time! i obviously can’t think straight after a while!

        • Shannon

          Jello brain by Friday :)

  9. Jenna

I think Gloria is referring to the second bullet point under key points: “ra will accept 3 coupons on three items” I think you meant 3 coupons on ONE item…

    • Shannon

Ugh I changed that, but for some reason the autosave posted. Thanks Jenna.

      • Jenna

        No worries! :-)

  10. gloria

has there been a change to the coupon policy – i thought you could still use a RC49 and a manu coupon both on ONE item?

    • Shannon

no they will accept three coupons on one item.

      • ashley

oh you got it before i could hit send – my page just updated :)
