Will you be sending your teen off to college soon? Perhaps this is there first year away? The thought of some teens managing their own budgets is sometimes scary, but it has to happen!
Dollar General challenged us to see what we could purchase for $20 for Aaron and his future dorm room. Now,there is a lesson to be learned here. Aaron would be perfectly happy with these purchases:
Yep, an endless supply of Big Cup Noodles – every teenage boys dream. Hey what else do you need in college? Caffeine and Noodles. Mom had a different idea! I am sure we can dig up an old coffee pot, but there are some things he will need.
You know things like laundry deterent. Who am I kidding, we will just buy a laundry bag, he won’t be doing any laundry. That is what visits home on the weekend are for. But we did find, hangers, waste basket, laundry baskets, binder, bins, and so much more.
The thought of sending your baby off into the world is scary. This was a fun lesson in money management and taking responsibility for your money. We all know how far $20.00 can go, when we use coupons and sales. It is very easy for a kid to spend Mom’s money, but budgeting his own will be a different story!
At the end of the day, this $20.00 was just a small drop in the bucket compared to what he will spend on his education, but it was a good starter lesson in budgeting! Be sure to check out all the DG Dorm Essentials to help your kiddo get started!
