I get many questions each day. I keep thinking – if one person has this question, there are probably many others with the same question. I decide to share my answers – hopefully this will help all of you!

I had a question regarding Rite Aid and wondered if you could explain it to me. I just got over 500 points and it says I get the 10% off everyday. Now I know there is a catch for sale items.. can you explain it to me? Thank you for your time!
FTM answer:
Hi Heather,
Sure! Here is how the Rite Aid discount works:
With the Rite Aid Wellness program, you earn 10% or 20% off. So, if you walk into the store and buy something that is not on sale, you simply deduct the 10% or 20%.
When an item goes on sale, there is a catch. When an item is on sale, you get the better price of the sales price or your discount.
The bottom line: If your discount price is less than the sale price, you get your discount price. If the sale price is less than the discount price, you will get the sales price. You will not get 10% or 20% off the sale price.
So here are the scenarios:
Scenario A
Item A shelf price is $10.00. It is on sale for $8.50. To figure out whether you get your discount or the sales price:
- Sales Price $8.50
- 10% Discount Price : $9.00
- 20% Discount Price $8.00
If you have a 10% discount, you will get the $8.50 sales price, if you have a 20% discount your price is $8.00.
Scenario B
Item A shelf price is $10.00. It is on sale for $9.50. To figure out whether you get your discount or the sales price:
- Sales Price $9.50
- 10% Discount Price : $9.00
- 20% Discount Price $8.00
If you have a 10% discount, you will get the $9.00 discount price, if you have a 20% discount your price is $8.00.
The discount is great in most situations, however there are times when the discount can make it harder to come up with a scenario. If you have any questions about the Rite Aid Discount, leave it in the comments.

Thanks!! The thing that I don’t understand is how the points are accrued. It seems like mine never increase or increase super slow. I already have the 10% discount that carried over from last year, but I would love to reach 20%.

Amber, that is a question that I cannot answer. I haven’t been able to figure it out myself. Sorry.

Shannon states above: “The discount is great in most situations, however there are times when the discount can make it harder to come up with a scenario.”
Here’s a prime example…last night I finally got to Rite Aid this week. I picked up some of the newest Nexxus Pro Mend….it was an overnight product for split ends I had been wanting to try….it was priced at $15.99 and if you spent $15 on Nexxus you get back $5 UPR — AND I had a video value coupon for $3 off, so I figured it was a good price to try out a new product. I had figured I would be paying, $7.99 (which is half price) after I got back the $5 UPR….WRONG I was, I forgot my 20% discount, so it only rang up at $12.79, so I received no $5 UPR, but it did subract the $3 coupon, so I paid $9.79…which is $1.79 more than I expected too.
IF I can find time I plan to take it back and get a refund and then purchase it with my daughter’s card (as she hasn’t earned a discount yet). If not, I’ll be reminded each week when I use the product that I overpaid by $1.79.
So that is a prime example of the 20% discount being a good thing, but when you don’t pay attention it can mess up a deal.
But again, still not the end of the world….

I was wondering if you could do a poll to actually see how many people have a discount at RA? I personally have 20% discount and have over 5000+ points.
ANGELA I says
Nice explanation :). You are right on making harder for scenarios though.. lol. Like back when they had the $5 UP when you purchase $10 in conair hair brushes… I was just a few cents short due to the 20% off discount and had to return and purchase different brushes to make it work!! Don’t get me wrong though… I’ll still take the discount!! ;)))
